I didn't run the Corally yet because I have to wait for the parts to arrive. No shop carries 1/12 stuff here.

This said the 12R5.2 I'll be mounting today should be ready to go this evening. At least I hope nothing will be missing but it should be easier considering it's made for a lipo.

@ valk: thanks for the advice, ride height definitely ismore complicated on pan cars. The CRC Xti has a more simple way to adjust it in the rear

can somebody help me for the gearing?

I'll be running a 10.5 GM motor to begin with. The indoor track is small and technical, here is a vid:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6d4A7e1w9Xc

Is it better to keep the standard 96t spur that comes with the 12r5.2 or should I switch to something else to have more gearing options just by changing the pinion?

Boosted or non-boosted?

For non-boosted, it depends on motor timing, but I'd say 65 to 75 mm looking at that circuit.

zero timing

what do you think about the spur, should I change the 96t for a smaller one? The 96t is almost as big as my worn out tires

Somewhere around 80 to 85 I reckon is what you want.

@radio active: ok I will probably start with a 84 then

@valk: it should go better in 1/12 than 1/10 TC, I love technical tracks. I'm used to drive on 1/10 tracks with my 1/8 too, it helps a lot for the skills

I will start with a 37/84 gearing. Both pinion and spur will be from the brand RW.

I'm missing a few small parts so I had nothing else to do than... do a painting It's just a trial. I used one of the used body that came with the 12R5.2 and here is how it came out

used body, before:

after:

have you ever seen a matte pink pan car? here it is .. Cost: 1$ I can make three bodies with ease with one rattle can . I used a paint made for the roads markings and it helds up great on lexan. I had already tried it in offroad in rain/mud with no problem. Pink isn't the favourite colour of many drivers, but I love it!

When people ask me why I run pink bodies I answer "because it's the fastest colour"

and everybody is like

impossible to miss

Thanks! I'm a beginner in onroad so I will be less technical in this thread, IMO the category lacks a bit of fun so my approach will rather be oriented on our progressive learning than theory and analysis. I will explain my choices but the main goal of the topic is to make more people drive 12th scale. So there will be many pics, vids, trials and errors.

No trouble at all! I've also done it under the body with a coat of PS55 which is transluscent but gives a matte finish. I really like the matte effect wich gives no reflects under any light. It pops out great on a track. I don't consider the color as something aesthetic, it's about the visual perception that works the best for my eyes. I'm quite surprised so few drivers think about the colour as a sign that can help for the driving. I did a few testings with different colours and IMO it's not less important than the choice of a motor or ESC. Call me crazy if you want

@Pulse - Keep the updates coming. I just bought a 12r5.2 kit for the winter, and your thread is great. I have a little 12th experience, but the information and decisions you are framing are extremely relevant and useful. Post a vid of that pink car flying around the track!

Here's my local track layout for week #1: (MMR Direct in Minneapolis)
