Well this is a loaded topic and yes to the untrained eye i agree most TCs look the same. Things that are proven to work are copied/adopted and eventually becomes an industry standard. Innovation does not have to be radical just needs to work and be functional. The Spec-R R1 is one such example it's not radical but the innovation is in the "genius" of compiling design elements that work. IMHO serpent has been a leader in innovative technology which has also been their achilles heel. A car doesn't have to cost a lot to deliver a lot. The specr has all the best features ALL for $290 at your door
Im coming from a t3 12 and with one outing with this car I was just as fast.
The bonus was all my X-ray bodies fit no alteration needed

This is a recession therefore I'll keep my $0.02

Well a little off topic, America will not come out of this recession this time, and every other country will be dragged down the economic spiral like a line of dominoes.

Some of the more competitive guys need the base set up to be on the money. They don't need to be hunting all day for the set up.

Some don't see any reason a car needs to cost 1000USD if its no quicker than a 400 dollar ride. All fair points.

I like the technical aspect and would like to learn about the intricacies of car set up, and approach to driving technique. I have an Awesomatix and it is a great choice for me. I learned a great deal the last year, its just a hobby, and that's what I want out of it.

Maybe the OP was kinda wrong but right at the same time, but I'm happy there is probably a car out there to suit everyone ATM. Perhaps TC is healthier than we imagine.
Good post.

One of our top drivers came to the track Saturday with his new ARC R10. Coming from a Tamiya 417, we spent hours comparing the new ARC to the 417, T3, and my S411. Like the Spec-R, it really seems to be a copy of the best parts of all the other cars. The hinge pin blocks, and layshaft are nearly identical to my S411 (heck the front spool pulley is the exact same). The steering looks like it came out of an Xray, and the bulkheads could be Tamiya if they were blue. The front bumper even has a place for a transponder ala the TC6.

He turned a 9.7 his first run with kit setup. My best is still a 9.8, and I have been in the 9's less then a dozen laps since we put in this layout (early November).
