Pinion pitch should be 64 metric.

Yeah, it seems the Japanese call it by .04 or .06 for 64 and 48p metric respectively, but in North America we just refer it to "48 metric" or "64 metric", or at least that's what I've seen Robinson list theirs as..

64 pitch is more efficient, a bit less noisy, and gives you more options when it comes to gearing, but is more prone to debris getting in the way of the meshing since it uses smaller teeth. I myself have no problems runnning 64p outdoors, but some will prefer the 48p.
Thanks heeps mate, I changed from toe out to to in because ive been struggling with mmy steering. Ill see what works better, as today i got my self a alloy servo saver.

TA-05R is on the way, should be on my doorstep Tuesday or Wednesday. Hope I've made a good decision with this car. My buddy might let me use his new Novak Velocity 4.5 brushless system too, but maybe not. Any suggestions as to what electronics I should get if I'll be running mostly club parking lot races and occasionally carpet? Also, if you have any other build tips, etc. to share they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys, I'm glad to finally be an owner of a Tamiya kit.

Default TA-05 Gearing

Hi, Just built my TA-05R and used it for the first time.. awesome, and comes out feeling lighter than my TA-05 although I did use a titanium screw set as well.

I stuck a 540 sports motor in my TA-05 and 29 pinion and 67 Spur which comes out at about 5.2:1 ratio and burnt the motor out quick smart, any clues on gearing as the 540 pro guys just use a silver can and I am sure that their ratios are in the low 4's, so would be drawing a lot more current? or perhaps I just got a dud motor?

Cheers justin

totaly incorrect, although they are very VERY similar, Tamiya supply .4module pitch gears with the TA05R, which is obviosly METRIC. 64dp is an imperial measurement, they are not they same, not to be confused as the same either. You run either one or the other, never a mix.

Well, on the plus side, you get a little more compliant chassis and stone protection.

on the negative, you get less space for electrics, heavier, less precise on the track.

Advantage: TCS legal
Disadvantage: More weight, tweak issue, less space for electronics

Depending on your racing surface, the tub may also offer the advantage of additional flex.

Hope this answers your question

I run the R on polished floor and occasionally on tarmac and yes, the tub does make the car a lot more settled and easier to drive, I wouldn't say it was any quicker than a double deck car but it does require less attention.
