I bought myself a new build TA05R version yesterday and installed a tamiya GT Tuned brushed motor and i drove the car today at our belgian tamiya cup series and out of the 9 cars i was the only one with a brushed motor.
The track doesn't have much grip so high speeds or high grip situations are out of the question. Had some trouble during the qualifs and had to start on the 9th starting position.
First final: after the first lap i was allready in 3th place, second lap i was allready first and could hold on to that position, i was even A full lap ahead of all the other drivers at the end of the first final.
Second final i finished 2nd, but the leader wasn't that much faster then me.
Last final: it took me about 5 laps to get in first position again and was able to hold a full lap ahead of the second driver till the finish.
The car was awesome, even though i had the car only yesterday night and just installed some electronics and did some improvements in setup.

I will be trying to compare the TA05R version against my TA06 PRO with same electronics and motor and see what's the best chassis.

I did once owned a full option TA05R and that car was a blast to drive, and i must admit that i forgot how good this chassis was and still is.

I will buy some alu bulkheads and carbon damperstays to get the best out of this chassis.

Buy a rear gear diff then find a spool to buy or an old ball diff and JB Weld it to use as a spool

You should be able to find what you are looking for at one of these two places.

In some god forsaken basement depot in a country where nobody has money to spend for such stuff.

I have found some obscure shops in Indonesia where they still had on the shelves long forgotten Tamiya cars.

These also sell very slowly in Europe (anything Tamiya is very expensive there), but there they wouldn't stock much to begin with.

My suggestion is try to buy all the bits off ebay and build yourself a car bit by bit. A lot of the TRF parts can be used and you can end up with a ripper car like that. Find the part list for a TA05R and go from there. These days there's also a lot of upgrades that did not exist when the chassis was released, like double cardan joint driveshafts, gear diffs, spool, etc.

www.tamiya-model.com

They have quite a few of the older Tamiya kits in stock. I have only ordered small parts from them, so I don't know what shipping would be for a kit. HTH.

I paid 100€ (about $130) for a new build TA05R 2 weeks ago, the car has never been driven. The car was used for display purpose only.
I drove the car the day after i bought it (did some minor adjustments on the setup) and the car was on rails.
I've allready ordered gear diffs, other belts and center pulleys, to get a lower internal ratio
Will try to get the car to a full option, like the one i had some years ago.
Too bad i don't have my TA05 setup sheets anymore

I have a TA06 PRO and that car is also a blast to drive, very well balanced cause of the battery layout. Maintenance wise it isn't that easy to work on as a TA05 car.
But still a very good car on the track.

TA05 V2 R IS THE BEST hands down. I have one and I can beat any of the newer cars with the exception of mod class. The only time you feel the difference is on chicanes with fast transitions.
