TA-05 on the scales at racing with dodge 3 body, control rubbers, LRP quantum, futaba s9550, box stock chassis except alloy shocks came in at 1540, that was with the personal transponder in.

my TA-04 with a older(bigger and heaver) speedy but mostly the same was 1490, although that was with a stupid amount spent on it to lighten it from the 1600 it started at!!!!!

TB-02 i can not help you with, but i think about 1560 out of the box

One of my cousins just bought a TA05, and his other friend has a Yokomo BD. I just got back yesterday from spending the night at their house. I was amazed at the sexyness of the BD and the TA05. There was no track so we did sort of a drag racing kind of thing, both cars were lined up. Heres how it went. The Yokomo started and accelerated alot faster but, the TA05 was slower accel but in the end top speeded out the BD. I'll try to get the video from him tommorow. Not sure if I can or not. Anyways, so far the TA05 looks very competitve. Both cars were stock and the TA05 had Tech Racing Option Parts and TRF shocks.

My TB-02 is 1660 all loaded up, kinda heavy, but so are my 3300's. If I use the 2400 packs for TCS, it drops by 70g.

My TA05 has a 945MG, QC2, Ti Screws, Threaded Shocks, Center One-way, and transponder holder, along with sway bars, and is 1540 with my 2400's, and 1610 with my 3300's. I have the transverse heatsink, cvds, the three carbon mounts (front/rear/bumper - TCS legal) and precision diff coming tomorrow, i'll have to weigh it again. I should weigh it with the front one-way too... all that aluminum...

I've decided to skip the steering set and suspension blocks for now, seems pretty sturdy enough for me with the plastic parts. Otherwise, i've a next-to-loaded TA05. I'll let you know how all of it weighs together, carbon stays, both one-ways, alu. hexes, heatsink, precision diff, front CVDs, Ti, etc... it all adds up in the end.

Exclamation Heavy - Heavy!

So, It seems the TA05 is the heaviest of the three tub chassis. Compared to the TA04, about 50 grams heavier. Although this doesn't seem to stop anybody from getting an "05", including me. Over time I think the "05" will evolve like all the other Tamiya chassis and start shedding weight.
With the more efficient drive train and better designed weight distribution, the "05" may still pull off an upset this year even with the extra weight. Even though the kit has been out for less than a month here in the USA! Set-ups are already starting to out handle the "04" Only time will tell!
For now we will have to deal with the extra weight! I believe the TA04 will be de-throwned as the King of GT-2 either by the TA05 or even the TB02-R.There's a lot of 02 out there and they also look dialed. We will find out by the end of August, who will reign as King of the GT-2.

Default Updated Setup Sheet

Yeah, it's on the heavy side, but I think efficiency will win over. TB-02's are limited in their gearing and having to be .6, while the 05 can pretty well use any spur and pinion available. Plus, the TB-02R's advantage will likely be taken away with the LW Suspension being put on the TA05 since those CF braces don't really save weight compared to the plastic ones.

I can't wait to see what kind of CF chassis they come up with for the TA05 down the road...

Here's a newer version for the setup sheet for the TA04 suspension, including tension adjustments and the regular plastic upright holes.

Thats kinda subjective ! ....Assuming they both had the same motor, esc and batteries, this just tells me that the BD has a higher gear ratio and the TA05 has a lower one !

If you can calculate both car's rollout and they're the same then it qualifies that the BD has better pickup and the TA05 got better topend.

Don't worry too much about weight. I'd take a slightly heavier car with a free drivetrain and decent handling over a car that you can play bass guitar with and is constantly tweaked because of said guitar string j/k. BTW, the TA04 TRF I took to the TCS worlds a couple years ago, weighed in at 1369 grams ready to race...The gentlemen in tech gathered around to look at it for a laugh because of how ludicrously underweight it was. A trip to R10 by our handler and 3D stacking of weights fixed that hehe.

The 05 is good out of the box, it may be quicker than the 04. Atleast, mine felt nice right on the first run. It's maybe a few changes away but we'll see. Thanks to Kilruf for posting the block information.

Madjack - your TA05 is waaay too heavy. I don't think you should use it for TCS. Please send it to my address and I'll take care of it.

Hey guy's would need some help, I'm interested in purchasing the TA05 but my problem is where to buy the parts ONLINE, any suggestions where? Our LHS does not carry Tamiya parts so the only way I can get a hold of the parts is through the World Wide Web

THANKS

My box stock kit with IB3600's, protoblob body, and sorex tires weighed in at 1540.

I would expect a few options, alloy hardware and Ti screws and the LW suspension will bring this down close to the legal weight of 1500.

The U.S. distributors just got the kits this last week. The hop-ups are in Japan only right now. Even Hong Kong doesn't have them yet.

Once the U.S. get's theres, Steve at www.speedtechrc.com will end up carrying the full line just like he does with the other Tamiya top end cars.
