It looks like an injection molded tub chassis. It takes a hefty investment to make a chassis mold for just testing purposes. Its not a matter of "if" but a matter of "when" it will be released.

If you compare Tamiya to other manufacturers who do not come up with new models as often and give you parts that do not fit as well, sure Tamiya is expensive. But I'd say it's justified. Cheap tools cost a fraction of quality tools but you end up with parts that are inconsistent with higher tolerance values.
Remember, no one forces you to buy the latest model. The TRF414 is just as competitive as the 415 in capable hands. WE CHOOSE to buy the latest and greatest and Tamiya is just answering to a demand. Personally I am glad they do.
