Post converting unregulated PS to regulated PS

pls help!
i'd like to convert my 12V 15A unregulated power supply to
a regulated 13.8V power supply.

i also want to convert my PC power supply to a regular PS.

For durability, I would prefer the transformer type power supplies. THese can withstand occasional ovrerloads. Only bad thing about these supplies is the weight.

With switching types you have to excercise more caution to avoid overloads especially if the there's not much overload protection on the output side.
