Default What are the most important tuning settings on a 10th TC?

Hi All,

As the subject suggests, what are the most important tuning configuration settings that you look at on a 10th scale car before and after racing ?

Thanks in advance.

I would say ride height, tweak and droop.

When someone is really struggling with their car and I want to try to get it in the ballpark, those are the things I look at first as well as saucing technique.

Make sure whatever settings that you think are supposed to be on the car are actually precise and even left to right.

I've seen some extremely wacky camber, droop, toe, etc., but the driver thought he was running {insert pro driver's name here}'s setup on the car. :P

I'm a crappy mechanic as far as playing around with settings. I ran a completely kit setup for a whole year on one of my cars, but it was a precise set up that I maintained well. Usually when some handling issue cropped up, it was because I either cracked a rim or the tires started pealing off the rims and needed to be reglued or replaced. That's something to look for, especially if you run Sorex 28 or 32. They usually start to peal away from the rim after a couple of runs in high traction (actually kind of tears away from itself near the glue line)

Yes I always check ride height and tweak (tweak often shows itself in ride height change from side to side).

Tires.
Springs.
Camber.
Toe f+r.
Inner pin height.

In that order.

Tweak is making sure your chassis is not twisted and that corner weights of you car are close.

Sedans are complex and settings typically work in harmony to achieve an effect. If you have a setup sheet and fudge one or two things the car will not perform properly.

I agree with camber, droop, ride height, and tires, but personally I never check tweak in a TC.

you should always check tweak after a crash

so basically you just put the chassis on the stand (with wheels hanging) and try to press corners to see if there is a wobble correct ?

And the same accounts for camber and toe. They generally do not change either if you don't crash.

Checking tweak on a touring car requires either a tweak station, or 4 digital scales.
The tweak station uses two levels, one front and one rear, to allow you to set the front and rear the same.
With the scales, what you are checking for is that the weight at the Left Front + Right Rear = Right Front + Left Rear.

I've heard some people say you can check tweak by lifting either the front or rear end from the middle of the chassis with a knife and seeing if the tires lift of the ground equally. This works well on pan cars, but doesn't with TC. The reason for this is TC cars have droop settings which will affect the down travel of each corner.
