drx: you are correct.

ROAR only has an official there.

That has been brought several times in several forums, and it always comes down to a cost issue.....

For the most part, tracks make more money without holding Regional/National type events, most even lose money when they do....

Guys.....this is the worst national event or what?
every manufacturer is protecting about their own stuff!!!
Why don't we just get together and make this hobby as fun as it can be.
I've been racing just for 2 to 3 years and I've seen nothing better at roar events.
my 2 cents!!!

The birds, Cleveland and the Reedy get bigger and better!!!! WHY?

Ah, the classic "don't make fun of him because his first language is not English" gambit. Much like the Crane Technique, "no can defend". Unless you want to be a giant jag. So let me pivot, and attempt to sweep the leg. This has nothing to do with Fernando's good results this weekend. It's all about ROAR's policy failure (see, big words, I was watching Meet The Press). Obivously, his thoughts are that this is some attack on Fernando. No, it is about ROAR. It's too bad his performance this weekend is caught up in all this. He's a good guy.

Tres is right ROAR typically just has a designated ROAR official. The host track that applies has designated its staff and protocol. When we have had ROAR nats at Trackside and at Radical Ricks's, I had absolutely nothing to worry about as Scotty and his staff (Trackside and Scotty wiht support of Radical Rick's owner Dave, Troy from K&N) ran the event. Now if we could clone Scotty, life would be great. Scotty the RD for the past two carpet oval nats and no hitches. I was the DRO for those events, and it was smooth. We did have an Autoscore error on choosing the 19-turn champ at the first one, and worked through the 19-turn brushes at the second.

Scotty and Vegas should be awesome!

I also know Ken Holmes (Scarecrow) has been used to help out as a RD as well. I believe he is the voice and RD for the oval nats next motnh at Halo Hobbies. Scarecrow was the RD at MSA 3 years ago when I was the DRO for that event, and hardest decision or headache we had was the rain. When the event was called because fo rain, it started to clear up. Scarecrow runs the Birds to a tee.

It does come down to staff. Most national hosts are required to run a regional event, and this can be waived based upon experience of the track and past record.

The concept of a ROAR race staff is interesting, would be a perfect situation, and as mentioned discussed several times over. It is a cost factor of travel and lodging costs and finding enough people to do task. We say experienced people and quality people, these tend to be the drivers that want to race the event. Not to mention the committment of vacation time and if these people should be paid.

ROAR is right now pursuing tech tools for consistent tech for each class event. I believe we have some for a few classes, but we are filling the voids. This will help on tech issues for consistancy.

Why not get the manufacturers to pony up for an experienced race director? They stand to benefit the most from all this, since they use the results to sell product....

ps I know it will never happen.

Great suggestion. What about manufacturer bias? Just discussion point.

Hey, can somebody who is there check the Stock 12th scale A-main names and see if "Tom Sinsching" is actually "Tom Firsching"? I think RC America made a spelling error.

I know its not a huge deal, but if it is Tom Firsching, I want to congratulate him for qualifying 4th, especially since this is only his first or second time attending a ROAR national race, unlike the "sand-baggers" who have been running stock for 5-10 years...

For those keeping stats, Tommy is running a CRC Carpet Knife, making the Stock A-main 60% CRC. Frank's gotta like those odds

I wanted to come out this weekend and video-tape, but from the sounds of the whining and bad attitudes at the hobby shop, I don't think I missed anything.
