I'd suggest if you do want to add it, why not add it as a one sided support without the use of the body clip outside of the body and the need to make a hole in the body. You can shim it with shims between the body post and the upper deck.

Any tips for a leak free diff?

1st time I build it, I admit the thin O-ring got out of place and it was leaking when sitting on the shelf.

So I rebuilt it with a new O-ring. Let the car sit a few days, didn't see any leaks. Then when I raced my car today, it started leaking all out again. When I build the diffs, I make sure to lightly sand the mating surfaces on a flat surface, and add plenty of green slime to help it seal a bit better. Also I have not overtorqued the 4 screws. I've built other diffs like this with no real issues but just seem to have problems with the Xray diff.

Thinking about just trying out a ball diff in the rear...

I've built 4 gear diffs and none have leaked, I never sanded or added grease to the o rings.

The o-ring has been found to be not needed. You should be ok with just the paper gasket.

I use much more shock o ring slime on the o rings. Add a small amount of shock oil into the paper gasket and I do not use the big rubber o ring usually. No issues.

how much fluid are you putting in the diff? I thought I had a leaky diff when I built my first few, only eyeballing the amount of fluid I put in. Once I put the empty diff on a scale and added the fluid by weight like the directions suggest haven't had a leak since. Leads me to believe it was more of an overflow problem than a leaking problem.

Hi,

I've built 6 different diff exactly like the manual says, just using greenslim on all O ring, no one leaks.
=> I put exactly 1,3 g of oil ( you can find tool to measure that for 10 USD)
=> I change each time I rebuilt the diff the big Oring because it swells with my X ceed silicone oil.

I had Yokomo before and X ray diff are lovely and leaks never, I can' t say the same for Yokomo diff.
