There is nothing to stare at...it is a piss poor design. The word on the street is that I guess that design works well with Xray pinions, but that is silly. Who can afford to buy even one Xray pinion let alone a whole set.
The work around to to remove the motor and tighten up and or replace the pinion with that method. Luckily, you can get the motor out with the motor mount being so low, but seems pretty silly to not consider that other people could possibly use other types of pinions.

The motormount as well as installing pinions (non Hudy ones here as well) works just fine for me.
Just out of curiosity: how are your pinions shaped for not working with the motormount?

I will take some pics when I get home. I am running Robinson pinions and the xray off set spurs. There is no way to get to the grub screw from the bottom and no direct way from the top. I could see getting the job done from the top with a ball tip possibly but I don't have one that small.

I am using epic pinions. I know they are very very rare and forged in the mountains of Tibet by monks with specially designed Lhasa Apso's bones as tools, but I figured they might work on this car since they work on every other f*in car on the planet. According to the report from Martin they tried hundreds of motors, thousands of different types of servos, millions of different types of body clips, but I guess pinions did not make the list. Good news is that my current body clips are in fact working perfectly. No clearance issues there!
Seriously, The issue is that the set screw ends up too close to the motor which blocks the access from above and below. It is something I will figure out how to deal with, but this is one item they did not coptimize very well. Maybe a rubber Hudy hex wrench made from nano technology might be in order to solve this mystery of the ages.

Crap, I think I messed up gluing the chassis.
I got a bit overzealous and glued some other screw holes, but the CA dried lumpy. How do I clean the bevel of the countersunk screw holes?
Preferably without doing more damage?

I haven't tried this, but it might work. I just thought of what I might try if it happened to me.
poke a small hole in a piece of sand paper. Put a countersunk screw through the hole from the back. use hex driver to hold the screw in the hole and then wiggle the sandpaper back and forth, maybe while also turning the screw in sync.
Just an idea...good luck
