Edit: spec R emailed me back and said 540's are a no go on this chassis for those interested.

Default Go Ahead... Pull the trigger

Ive been racing a TT-01 for a few years about 4 years ago and it never did it for me. My brother has a TA-05 v2 which smashed me at the local outdoor track.
For a few years ive been reading here and learning ready for my next purchase.

I have to say my sights were on the TA-06 pro.. Though to be fair the funky rather complicated design had me wondering, yet was about to make my purchase....until I started reading about the spec R1... This seems like a game changer.... Always loved the CF top kits but at the price and for my needs seemed a bit much.
So for 50 USD more than the pro I can get the R1 which in my mind is a car which is as good as a top Xray or TRF? For the price of a R1 if damage occurs im not so bothered unlike a TRF. Am I right thinking this?

My thoughts the R1 is FAR superior to a TA-06pro and i cant see a TA-06 ever being in its league... What do you guys see here?

Does this chassis inhale small stones? My brothers ta-05 does and its a pain.
Why does the kit have holes in the chassis where the gears are? Perhaps some race tape to cover them over while racing is in order.

The pinion gear... Now with the kits ive been using its usually a 19T or 18T so when i see the words 48P Im lost? Is it a new way of naming the pinions?
Do all of you guys prepare your CF chassis before your builds? I generally like to keep things clean and simple and hate messing up parts...especially with CA around me
Do tamiya shells fit this chassis? As in holes lining up?
Im very close to pulling the trigger on one...VERY close.

Thanks to all who will help me sorry if its a long post. Ive been saving up
Everyone is giving you good advice on the car. I totally suggest you get the R1 or even the S1. I have both and use the the R1 for carpet and S1 in asphalt races. I do not suggest the R10 like the other guy suggested. I have a friend who has one of the those and it's hard to get parts for it. There is at least 4 places I know that carry parts for the Spec-R and TQ where I race at has all the parts, even special items for the car no one else has yet. Speedtech I think is going to carry the car so that is even more parts support. I haven't broken anything on my car yet. Like the other guys said there are a few things you will need to get for it to make it perform even better but the good thing about that the parts do not cost that much compared to other car companies. I have had about 5 different sedan cars this year because I was in the same position as you( on the fence). Serpent S411, Tamiya 417, Hot Bodies TCX, and TC6.1..... This car I ended up staying with because of price and performance. Go ahead pull the trigger and save yourself $200 compared to the other kits and use that for tires, pinions, motors, and everything else your gonna need.. Trust your gonna need all the money you can save.

I've been in a similar predicament looking to get into a touring car and reading about T4, S411, 417, TCXX, TC6.1's. With my racing skills i wont see the difference of spending an extra $200 or more. Seems like this car will be enough to keep me happy and grow into. I've also been reading this forum and it seems like a bunch of good techs are willing to help support which in my case will be necessary. I should be joining the club soon

Pretty much what ever springs you prefer . A fellow racer has tried the.rides. I am using the spec r spring kit for the xray . I think the best might be the yokomo springs tho.

Hi, I have the S1 right now and I want to use a differential at the front. Problem is the hobby shop doesnt have a built dif for the kit. He sells whole diffs for TCX, 416 etc. So what replacement diff can I use that matches the one in the S1 kit?

Thanks

Hey Matt, this is Kev... I use the Ride Springs... A bit costly but they have both the hard and soft range. I wish Spec-R would come out with there own spring set. The ones that come with the kit are to hard.

Use the Spec-R R1 slash Xray diff that is made by Spec-R. It will also be the Ver. 2. There are about $32 from TQ RC Racing.com. That was one of the first things I bought for the car and it helped settle the car down opposed to using the spool. The diff in the R1 and S1 are the same.

If you're running 17.5 or faster on medium traction or higher, I'd strongly recommend trying the spool with DCJs. On my Schui, the DCJs with spool give the smoother cornering of the front gear diff, but without giving up accelleration out of the corners.
