I also plan on picking up the new top deck with the pillow ball centre support. The new fan mount looks sweet too although it's more bling than anything else.

On the steering rack...

I went ahead and did a couple of things. The rack, I used a plastic bag over the bearings and pressed them in, I then trimmed it out with an Xacto. I also used some M3 shims totaling 0.8mm instead of the stock 1.0mm under the bearings. You could also sand down the stock shims.

On the dual arms, I sanded down the posts to make them more snug. Screws usually have a slight shoulder, so I actually sanded them below the bearings slightly. When using the CF brace, I will install a 0.1mm shim to free up the steering. I also glued the bearings in place.

The result is a near Zero slop bellcrank.

I had a customer and close friend run his R2 for the first time this weekend. He improved his times by about 1/2 a second over all his previous cars per lap. The R2 is RC's biggest secret right now. At least on carpet...

I am finally getting to make the aluminum chassis this week. I am really excited to to see the improvements. Last week I ran within 1 second of the track record that I ran with my XRAY with a roll over included. I also bested my fastest lap. This was with a box stock car...

Wont that make the steering less precise? Woulndt you want the steering mech to bolted to the chassis so that it couldnt move about ?

Unfortunately, they back ordered them on me. They did not have enough after TITC, on top of the first batch being small due to the Chinese Spring Festival. They will have some more soon though... They are already payed for.

New aluminium steering blocks fitted, and they didn't need anything taking off, a direct fit. Hopefully the end of that problem !

Thing is, they weren't breaking because of crashes. The bottom holes have been wearing / stripping. Probably due to heavy side ways forces during cornering on high grip carpet.

This is caused by tapping boards or using too short of a bottom screw. Have you tried the carbon ones? They are far more durable. Side ways cornering forces would never strip these.

Heh. I broke my.first carbon one in like.. 10 minutes. A bit afraid of them..not even a hard hit 17.5.

Toon, you'll notice on your new aluminum steering blocks that there is a bit of a hump on the arm that contacts the c-hub at huge steering angles. If you file that off, your chubs will last much longer. I'm sorry that I forgotto mention that earlier. I haven't broken a chub since milling that bump off of the arms.

I used to strip the screws in the bottom of he steering knuckle on my r1 too. I never discovered why or how it happened. I haven't had that problem on the r2 at all, and it's been a long time for the r1.
I find the carbon parts are nicer to thread in to, but they are more brittle. I've broken a chub and a front arm so far. I've had to replace them with the standard plastics for now. I like the feel of the hard plastics on track better though.

I have only broken an inner hinge pin by a slight tap on a rail. Has been good so far. The pin didn't even bend, just a clean snap. Replaced with polished hotbodies pins of the same size. I hope my parts hold up for my last points series race.

to be fair, the one hard chub i broke, i kind of deserved to.. i have a bad habbit of aiming RIGHT at the inner of a chicane.. luck was not on my side lol. they definitely have less slop to them and are less prone to tap erosion. ive had my old lower arms widen by like a full mm where they capture the hubs. had to use some ae caster shims to tidy it up as i didnt really wanna change the arm for that.

shoudl have my r2 in a week... if i can stove off the excitement to throw a new kit together the day i get it, i might do a time lapse of building at the track. some people had questions about how to build shocks nicely and consistantly, which i could address. how i shim my cars/untweak them ect.

ill definitely get someone to capture video of the car on track, esp with the little goodie that is being included with mine.
