At least you will have the Tamiya Low Friction Ball Cups 53601 at hand while building the R1

I doubt it. I am a Tamiya fan also. The build quality between the two is NOT EVEN CLOSE. I can't stress that enough.

Unfortunately, I am afraid he will find out the hard way.

As everybody i know who drives a Spec-R R1 recommended to buy the S2 kit for spare parts, i'm a good listener and bought myself the last S2 kit from rcmart
To buy the car was more interesting then buying the parts as a spare part.
And from what i've been told, the gear diff from de S2 version is an improved version of the R1/S1 version.
I will keep you all informed about the building part and how it drives, there will be a race within 3 weeks so that leaves me just 1 week to build and to test the car.

Default Pinion/spur for an S2 ?

I just bought a S2 , its on the slow boat now.

I guess I'll also need a pinion/spue for a fdr of around 3.5
What 48p pinion & spur should I get,
will there be an issue of what 3.5 combo will actuall fit on the car motor, eg if spur too small I amy nit be able to move the motor close enough to mesh the gears

Cheers

From what i can see when i googled it the HD version has 20% larger internal gears (my guessis that the HD version is a stronger and more reliable version).

It also doesn't have the stupid leaky ballbearings in it. Hd dif a nice improvment though the oring is just stupid. I've never had the old paper gasket leak. Was always the bearings.
Also not sure why we had hex screws in the old dif and phillips on the hd. Phillips should be outlawed... like the incandecent light bulb....

we had a smallish turnout for club racing today but had a nice test and tune.
I widened my R1Pro by two dots in the front and rear. I had ran the 4 dots in front in/out and 4 dot in/3 out in the rear.
width was something like 185 though. so i pushed it out as close to 190 as i could without going to the most extreme dot pattern.
I also put ALL the top plate screws in and stiffened the car up A LOT. the r1pro is very flexy which is great for low traction but higher traction that the sugar provided, i was washing out a lot of corner speed to chassis flex.
stiffening the car made a HUGE difference. car was much more linear and responsive on this track condition and i was able to pitch it in a lot better.
another change i did was run the shortest possible rear link with a lot of angle.
qualified second overall on two month old tires and took the main.

in two weeks ill chuck a set of fresh muchmore 32s on there and see how it fares. should be a lot more prepared for carpet this setup i think.

Has anyone ran the Bittydesign Striker shell? What were some of your observations?

I did look at running it but was too expensive to get. Ended up with the LTC-R as there is good local supply

The postman just delivered the S2 version, still waiting on my R1 Pro Spec to be delivered.
The S2 is for spare parts and the R1 Pro Spec will be build to run silvercan races and brushless motors.
Hopefully it will arrive very soon cause i would like to test the car before the next race that takes place on september 7th.
