Get one of these and save yourself about 95% of the normal breakage....

Hrm... what does that do better than the stock foam bumper? Is it wider, so protects the front wheel areas more?

Its the same size as stock but its rock hard it doesnt fold under impact. Most times you break because you fold the soft foam bumper and the front end takes the blow. With a harder bumper it will not allow that to happen so it lets you hit stuff but not break. The one down side is that its heavier than the stock one so take that into account.

I'm talking about the plastic part of the bumper that carries the foam and the front body posts. Can I use the ones from xray t4 or the tamiya's? I mean will it fit without any mods?

I never saw your original question I was responding to someone else. Most parts off the T3/4 fit this car the foam bumper works but I have no idea about the plastic bumper. The 417/6 front body holes are close to the same spacing as a Spec-R so it might work but I have never tried to fit one.

heh. i thought the s1 bumper was pretty hard.. any harder and it isnt much of a bumper, more of a pit bar...
if im gonna break that its gonna be the plastic keepers for sure. short answer? slow down and dont hit shit.

ps. this weekend is wcics5 in victoria bc. home club.

Ill be racing again with the man i raced with at our outdoor trophy race in touring stock 17.5 I qualified a tenth of a second behind him for the main and ended up taking the main. he has a LOT LOT more experience than me and a LOT LOT more money in his rc. he will definitely be coming with a fully kitted lrp powered awsomatix. in the summer i had a reasonablly done T4 i borrowed from a friend but this time, ill be running the spec r s1 lol.. $84 is going to compete directly with $840. the only saving grace id say is i pulled the speed passion as a friend in club wants to use it in his f1, so my specR is getting the royal orca treatment for this race and a brand new never run smc 7270 battery.
assuming i can match him on carpet it will be VERY interesting to see how the specR handles. all the other boxes are checked. spec tires. should be fun!

my serpent is jimmied together with some random hobbywing oem esc and an old ass tekin motor for modified. i dont expect to do that well in modified lol.. kevin herbert is coming and whoever else will come because of him is a good question. if i made the A main that would be fantastic but no delusions here.
Touring stock i have a decent shot at an amain berth but hard to say. the man with the awsomatix tq'd and won last year i believe.

Or put the harder bumper on and drive fast and dont break shit.

Harder bumpers were the norm when foam tires were king in the US...people like P-Dub, Rubber neck and Parma all made hard bumpers for all cars. I dont know why people want to run soft ones outside of 15 to 20grams of weight I will rock a hard bumper and not worry about a little tap cracking a castor block or anything else. But hey to each its own I know that a hard bumper has saved me more times than not.

Doesn't the hard Xray bumper just transfer the impact energy to the bumper braces, and those in turn to the chassis? I mean.. the force of the impact has to be distributed somewhere, doesn't it?

It still flexes some but not nearly as much as the stock one. I have had one on my car for over a year without any issues to my bumper or braces. Like I said this not anything new just saying if you are having issues with breakage this will 95% eliminate them if you use one....if your that lucky and dont break when you hit things then keep the stock one.

Until then my old ragged body will have to hold up for a few more meets (fingers crossed)

It's just that I'm street racing and running on not so perfect (slightly bumpy) surface that It scrapes the lowest part of the bumper carrier. That's why I want to replace it before the scraping reaches the main chassis. I'm not into destruction derby so I don't need a stronger bumper.

Xray parts are just 7 minutes away from me if I walked, Tamiya and Spec R parts are like 10km away.

Great, I'll try to stay out of your way. Thanks RDS, hadn't thought about others seeing my car, it was mentioned to me that the car would be hard to see for me, kermit now has a primrose yellow turret & bonnet (yep it's as girly colour as it sounds), body #2 has silver stripes down the turret, the new bodies I'm getting will still have kermit green, but I'll be using 'tattoo' graphics, so will have some different other fluro colours in the mix.

I'm working on the Sunday night both those weeks, I don't usually have anytime on Sunday's, one week I work all day the other week I work the night.

I'd love to get up there for a drive, but with my work commitments, Friday nights, or Saturday during the day work best for me.

Default New S1 budget build for VTA

Great thread guys! Just ordered an S1 to build for casual VTA racing. This is more of a budget build for me as I already run nitro and electric offroad. I'll be using a 4PL radio and GensAce 4000/5000 30c batteries. Running on a small indoor med grip asphalt track. Here is a list of items I've ordered with the kit to get me started...

-78t 48p spur
-40t 48p pinion
-R1 steel hinge bushings
-Droop screw chassis protectors
-Tamiya rod ends
-Shim kit 3/4/5mm
-Solar D770 low pro HV servo
-Hobbywing Justock ESC
-Novak Boss 25.5 motor
-VTA wheels/tires
-HPI 68 camaro body

Couple of questions. Are the sway bars necessary for VTA? Does the kit include any of the parts needed to mount sway bars? Any tips on base setup, shock oils/springs? Thanks!
