That depends on how you want it set up. With an in-line battery configuration like the stock Xti the servo has to go up front to make room for the rest of the electronics. If your running the Altered Ego with the battery cross wise you can put it behind or in front, whichever way you prefer. On my friend's Altered Ego I set up the servo in front because I had expected to run the battery in-line that way our setups would be similar. But the kit Altered Ego chassis is shorter and pod longer so there isn't enough room to run the battery in-line. So I left the servo there and set up the rest of the car with the battery cross wise and it runs pretty good.

Here is how I did my Altered Ego.

Default altered ego set up for 17.5

hey all,
anybody willing to share a starting set up for (straight out of the box) altered ego chassis for 17.5????

building one after a 2yr hiatus from racing... don't know the amount of traction at my local track but I assume mid to high...

looked throughout the thread but didn't see anything for transverse layout...

thx!!!!

I would suggest starting with this:

Front
.50
1mm droop
3.5mm RH
5* blocks
2 shims forward
Chrome tires 41mm

Rear
Red center spring
.50 or white sides just touching and tweaked
2mm droop
20k tubes
Graylow rears 42mm
30wt oil in Ctr shock
Audi r8c body
172mm width

It comes short arm , the long arm is a kit for all of the pro strut front end.

Front droop check

Wiita also does it this way.

With all four wheels on the car and battery in , at eye level turn the wheel so the king pin is visible . Watch between the pivot ball and spindle , lift the car until the wheel almost lifts . This is the front droop amount , make both sides equal by adjusting the kingpin length .

The way I like to do it . Remove the front tires , lay them on there sides , set the axle on the rim and check the same way as described above.

Exactly, both methods work well. Depending on the surface you are running on(low or high grip) I like to use the front droop as a tuning option. I typically take out droop as the grip level increases. Usually go from 1mm at low to med grip to next to none on high grip.

The reason I prefer to eyeball the front droop instead of measuring the kingpin lentgth is because you will notice the "sweeper" side spring always seems to wear more than the other side causing you shorten the king pin on that particular side of the car to get the droop consistant. Not saying my way is correct and by the book, but just something I've had good luck with. Obviously, once you start seeing an inconstancy in right and left springs you should start with a new set springs. Hope this helps.

If memory serves me correctly, as I just built an Altered Ego, Bottom plate is wider, and top plate is longer in terms how how far the shock mount is extending from the top of the pod.

So it does not affect wheelbase?

Actually yes the Altered Ego has a shorter wheelbase than the stock inline-Xti. I think I read by about 6mm.
