I think the 3.5 are designed for blinky like the revtech, so have a load of internal timing on them already.

When racing in boosted class, you really want the esc to do the majority of the timing for you. The main reason for this is excessive heat build up when running timing on the motor.

With my d3, I've found it runs best with only 10 degrees of timing, I can then use up to a further 64 degrees on my esc and temps stay reasonable.

Motors are all fairly equal once you get the timing right, I just find the d3 to stay cooler than most.

The orca rx2 as mentioned above.......blew up two of these and was no quicker than my d3.

Honestly I've had the best results running the Novak premium (vented endbells and ceramic bearings) ballistic in 17.5 boosted, especially when running all esc timing. The revtech and speed passion MMM are great for blinky but like the others said, they have a lot of internal timing so no so great for boosted. The thunder power 17.5 is excellent as well.
