Change the standoffs to something lower. TQRCRacing sells lower standoffs.

You don't really need any parts to convert to transverse. You can just move everything around and be careful about how you tape the battery in, i've played around on and off with it like this. The only real advantage that I can come up with is that you have the flexibility to move the battery forward and back depending on how you fit your electronics in. I want to try it inline, but with the connectors toward the back at some point. I have a gut feeling that if you have a lot of direction changes in your track, inline might be better, but if you have a lot of sweeping corners then transverse might be better.

Thanks Cosmo, this should give me a good starting point.

I was asking because I have a 12r5.1 which is the transverse battery kit. And really the only thing I want to convert to is using the side dampers instead of the side shock. RSD makes the conversion to make a transverse battery location. Then add the side dampers and drill the holes for the dampers on the top motor plate.
You think this would work?

It sounds like it would work. Not having tried it I can't say for sure though.

I've built a 12R5.1 with the 12R5.2 damper tube setup. It works very well.

You will need the 5.2 crossbrace, upper pod plate, damper tube assemblies and hardware. Use the 12R5.2 kit manual and catalog to confirm the part numbers.

The 5.2 upper pod plate bolts on the the 5.1 pod without issue and you may want to trim the battery support tabs to allow the battery to be moved back further in the car.

I was able to do this as well. I actually cut the length of the damper tubes and pistons a bit but it worked pretty well

Parts on order. Just concerned about the shock length coming off the new upper pod. Way longer than the 5.1. And I will mounting that shock on the chassis not on that stand off like the 5.2 will this affect the handling or is everthing relative?

Looking forward to running this chassis this year. A few changes I'll be making, running transverse battery position and Yokomo X-Shock for central dampening.

Yes, the new Yokomo is coming. I'm just looking for something different and I'm a huge fan of the Associated front end. The Yokomo front end can be a little difficult at times, but when setup correctly, its fast. Buying an Associated is basically the same thing I have right now. The only difference is parts availablity for the R5.2. There are some Yokomo parts that they no longer produce anymore and I'm in need of them. The Associated is a nice change and the price was right. It was silly cheap, thanks RC Champ!

So are the chassis brace standoffs the same length as the 12r5.1 noticed they have a different part number
