Trinity Cobalt questions

Hello,

I am thinking about getting a trinity cobalt modified motor for this season. What I am confused about is the round wire vs flatwire.

Is there a real advantage to flatwire of is this just a gimmic?

If you go with the round wire, will you have less torque and just great mid and top end?

This is will used in multiple vehicles ( ie- 4wd buggy, 4wd sedan, )

In My opinion, flatwire feels funny sometimes. It allows the armature to spool up faster, but it decelerates faster making it feel liek there is alot of drag brake. The round wire gives a broader powerband in my opinion. Its normally my choice to run it unless the track calls for the flatwire.

on my D5 flatwire i seemed to be able to carry more speed through the corners (as sushi said, it deccelerates quicker and spools up quicker) so in effect i could accelerate quicker and slow down later.

although i have had bette results running the normal round wire.

Good rule of thumb. Flat wire = short track. Round wire = big track.

what about a track that has a long straight but tight infield sections? From what I have read, some of the top tuners don't do the flat wire at all?

Will the round wire still have good punch?

Round wire works every where. It will have more than enough punch. If you need faster spool up try a silver spring on the positive.. Flat wire is pretty much used on short tracks only. As for what most are doing...... Round wire is definitely the favorite from what I have seen. I run Trinity products and I prefer the round wire on small tight carpet tracks...

Thanks for all the info guys. I think I am pretty much set on what motor to pic, now just need to determine what turn and wind. Probably start with something like a 12 or 11 turn double. Thanks again!

By the way, how many runs are you guys getting on the XXX brushes?

Korey Harbke 03-07-2005 12:07 PM

I've been hearing about 15 runs and cutting the com every 4 in sedan applications.

thanks for the info. The brushes for the Cobalt are the P-94 sized ones correct? Which of the P-94 brushes are the longest wearing or is the XXX brush that one?

Korey Harbke 03-07-2005 12:47 PM

xxx brush is the compound. I think they are available in laydown, standup and p94 size.

EddieO 03-07-2005 08:36 PM

The cobalt comes in either p94 or standup....and you can get the xxx brush in standup, laydown, and p94 sizes....

But whats even better is to tell EddieO what you are running, and let him send you a motor for it.

Where can yo get br00d motors? Their website is under construction.

Eddieo: What do you recommend, P94 or standup for the Cobalt, also, is this a stock configuration for the Cobalt (ie- I can buy the standup version at the LHS made by trinity ) or is this something that has to come from a tuner?
