Interesting pics of the new car, at first I didn't think a lot had changed, but looking again, aside from the obvious ATS and spur arrangement / top deck, there is a smaller servo brace which seems to attach to a long, central alloy or plastic piece (underside shot of car shows that this is connected via 4 screws), new c hubs, steering knuckle (front - rear has current piece) and also, although very similar looking, the wishbones have different webbing on them, looks as though they will give a little more flex than the current wishbones.

Springs have wider coils at the top than the bottom - are these progressive springs? I don't think Yokomo currently make them for their SLF shocks do they?

Also, grub screws in the spare camber pick up on the bulkhead to hold the bearing cam, I've read about people doing this on the older models, but maybe they have drooped the spring/ball set up completely now?

Looks like RV is using 3.5 blocks on the RF and RR - same set up as front kit setting, so the pins are parallel and all of the toe is added via the ATS set up.

Looks good and seems to be working better for them in the lower grip conditions than the '16 did.

The BD8 motor mount is much shorter between its chassis mounting points. This will give a lot more flex at the rear, and a lot more traction, something it's always lacked compared to the Xray.

The underside picture shows it's just mounted using the 3 black steel screws (and some locating pegs between them). The rest floats above the chassis:

Good point Dale, that should be a big improvement. You can see the original motor mount holes in the chassis still and its a big difference.

Also, with the new belt set up, I didn't see at first that the front belt is now central (I just thought the spur was put to the end of the pulley set up and the gap between the two belts was the same as the 16), but with the cut outs you can clearly see a central pulley. Do you think the central plastic part I referenced above acts as a belt tunnel and a servo brace mounting platform?

The more I see, the more I like it.

Hi all,

I accidentally ordered a 2016 titanium coated main gear shaft for my BD7 2015 (B7-644T16). Can anybody tell me if they are compatible? Or will I need to order the 2014/2015 specific part (B7-644T14)?

So with the more flex on the BD8 for more rear traction and other neat features, since I have a BD7 2016 and likely just carpet racing, in getting a 2nd car with the sale at AMain on them on the 2016 would I just be best to do that you guys think and have common spares between a 17.5 and Mod or USGT chassis? Or get the BD8 if you were in my position?


The 2016's were railing top of A Main at our tracks locally no problem with the T4 2016 cars while last season I was struggling with the TRF419 on carpet to keep up.

Just bought my first Yokomo BD7 2016. Looking for some advice.

USGT,Medium/Medium High Traction Grey Carpet. Which main chassis plate do you recommend? Any set-up advice is welcome!

Also, does anyone have experience (good/bad) with the Samix floating steering system?
