Just to bring everyone to the same page: http://www.redrc.net/2016/06/yokomo-...halt-spec-kit/

So "standard BD7 2016 with a few asphalt specific option parts"...
  • aluminium steering limiter screws [ B7-201LS ]
  • front belt tensioner set [ B7-FBTS16 ]
  • 43.5mm FR aluminium suspension mounts [ B7-3135FR ? ]
  • SLF short II shock diaphragms [ B7-8DF16 ? ]
  • pink SLF short II springs [ B7-14525 ]
  • titanium turnbuckle set [ B7-TBSA ]
  • aluminium steering bellcranks [ B7-202SS ? ]
  • 44mm C-clip rear universal shafts [B7-010R ? / B7-010RA ? ]
What makes any of these asphalt specific, I don't quite get (but also I'm not worried, because I already got most of these already. Since 43.5mm on FR is stock, we may assume they're talking about it being the one-piece instead of the split version, I guess. So far it's mostly a nice list of "general use" option parts, IMHO. Until we get to the last point of the article:
  • "Also included is a dedicated asphalt spec carbon fibre chassis" [ B7-00216H ?]
Now this sounds like the only really asphalt specific part of the whole kit. The rest, as I already mentioned is just some more or less basic all-round options, included in the kit (which is nice in its own way, don't get me wrong - I just happen to have most of it already - even on my carpet car .)

Hi Dirk,

You're right, it's an optioned kit, with a new chassis. The chassis has the same cutouts and pattern as the recent hard chassis release, whilst still maintaining the material of the existing chassis, so in other words, it's same material as current with different cutouts for flex which the team have found is great on asphalt.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Nathan

Questions??

Hi hi everyone was wondering what other people's thoughts are for BD7 2015/2016:-
1. Removing the steering bridge how dose it affect handling.
2. Same for the screw in front of the spur gear.

Just what to compare notes to make sure what iam feeling isn't in my head

I find it makes the car more direct in response with them in and turns more consistent faster laps with them in. This is on carpet. I have not raced it on asphalt but will be next month.

I heard Volker won the Reedy Race using a 2014 car, so for the 2017 car Techra style blocks and 14 car lol

He could probably win with a Grasshopper and TC tires on it. I don't see how relevant that is at all.

I do like the xray, associated, techra blocks though. I am sure they will eventually come around to that.

not at all a stupid comment. It's very relevant when the top guy driving the car is running the older car as it's better, newer isn't always necessarily better, Tamiya have gone back to move forward with the 419X. It was posted on facebook that the new blocks will be released shortly, most have just been using the Techra ones for now

I am looking for a 17.5 asphalt setup for a 2015 bd7. Any help is really appreciated. Thank you

Take a look at petiterc.com. Many setups and you should be able to find a good starting point.

I was hoping that someone here could recommend which one to try.

tandman, unfortunately I do not get the chance to run asphalt here in MN. I would look for something from Andrew Hardman. I have found his carpet setups easy to drive and great starting points.

So you're saying this chassis focus from Red RC was wrong? I guess they would've handed Red RC a '16 to boost sales and hid the '14 that he ran. Definitely a possibility but pretty unlikely.

As long as it's just something someone "has heard" it's just a rumor. I find it a little hard to believe as well. Not impossible, but unlikely.

Might be true, see first interview on the link below, the way he sets his body to block the camera is very suspicious, lol.
