Default Tamiya FF03 Gearing 5.5t motor

Hi all,
my background, racing 1/8th Mugen Seiki buggy. Decided to buy an electric kit.
Bought the FF03 Type R as I have the real car. I decided to buy a 5.5t mtronics motor with esc. After connecting it up and driving it i find that there is a lack of speed if i hit full throttle. if i only touch the throttle then the car accelerates gradually with holding the throttle ever so lightly. If i go full throttle it seems like the gears are slipping and not engaging it to go at high speed.
can anyone tell me how to resolve this or what am i doing incorrectly.
