Your 1/12 servo can't really be a bargain-bin purchase, 1/12 requires a servo with good resolution and centering ability, or your car will wander going in a straight line. I would recommend JR's Z3650, its about $80, and comes with a warranty and all. I have two, and have thus far had no problems.

JR3650. Not a bad price when you factor in the durability and you have a fast servo that centers. Just pony up and be done with it.

For the Xray X12, the KO-951 is a straight drop in for both the left or right mounting postions (you'll want it on the right side). It also has more torque than the JR which is nice.

The JR is good, but know that you are going to have to sho-goo the JR in place as it does not line up with the mounting hole pattern on the X12 so changing ackerman will be a pain.

no question the jr3650 and ko951 are both great, but a futaba 9650 will work well on a budget.
