Oh and yes the HPI Pro4 would go on top of the list, so too would the rest of the predated Pro3, Pro2, and the RS4, looking from an evolutionary perspective
Thanks for all the help guys...

Default Lipo question

Is there any modifications that need to be done to the chassis, or will a lipo fit in the cyclone easilly? And if so, which size lipo fits best in these cars?

Lipos do fit, you just have to be careful with height of the packs and weight balance.

Most 3800 - 4000 mAh packs are around 21mm high and are quite light. I'd recommend getting the Manutech lipo plate for the TC to run under them (Stormer had some the last time I checked). The plate will make up for the weight difference, and the entire set will still fit (you have about 23mm or so to work with before you have to start griding down the rear chassis plate support that's over the battery).

5000 - 5400 mAh packs are usually 23.5 to 25mm high, which take more work. Even with just the battery, you'll have to grind down the above mentioned support to make it fit, and then you'll still be about 4 - 5 oz. out of balance (too light on the battery side). I'm running the ThunderPower 5000 40C pack (23.5mm high) because it's the thinnest 5000 lipo out there. I also filled in the battery slots in the chassis with tungsten and epoxy (about 5 oz worth) in order to get even left/right balance.

I don't know whether the 3racing chassis and deck give you different clearance or not. As long as the chassis is the same thickness, the clearance should be the same.
Also, you won't need the plastic NiMH holders for lipo, so pull those out if you haven't already.

Your lipo is probably not clearing the rear deck mount above the battery. I dremelled my down by about 1.5 mm to clear my pack. Take a look to see how much material you'd have to remove to get clearance. You can probably get away with cutting off 2mm or so. After that, you'll start making it weak.

Thanks a lot PETE I took a look and I think 1.5mm it's all that I need. I'm securit the nimh pack with straps from 3racing , what you use to secure the lipo pack ?

Thanks

Default poor cyclone availability

I tried to buy a new cyclone recently but everyone was out of stock.
Apex and Demon in the UK told me not to bother, and go for a xray
or schumacher instead.

As a side note, at the same time I got a PRO 4 on ebay for
my pal and was very lucky getting a part I needed for it !....it took me
ages to find a stockist.

Basically I can appreciate the comment made earlier on this thread
by someone else. It makes me wonder too whether a new cyclone is coming
out soon.

The rare time you see a cyclone on ebay there is always lots of bidders.
If you looking to sell, now is the time

Surely someone on this thread knows whats going on with the HB TC?

Does Mr Hot Bodies (HPI) read this thread?

One hobby shop in Australia indicated that if it had stock, it could sell the HB TC at virtually any price !!

Cheers

I'm glad that should work for you. Tape is the way to go, because lipos will slide out of straps on a flat chassis. I use battery strapping tape. It's fiber reinforced but a little stronger than the generic fiber tape. Besides the standard lengthwise loop over the battery and under the chassis, I put a strip along the right bottom edge of the pack. I align the lipo with the right edge of the chassis (helps in balance too). That keeps in in there even with heavy impact.

hey, i got a cyclone moorespeed and for the life of me i cant keep my battery still, it either likes to slide out from under the velcro strap and grind against the pinion or come out of the car completely.

i use those stupid packs that dont have the the little feet on the bottom, so it just slides around, anyone got a way to stop the damn thing from moving about?

Yea... I see what your saying... Most all cars have the same problem
I use two servo mounts standing up in the holes that are already down the center of the chassis. One in front of the pinion and one behind the steering post, that will keep it straight, then use good tape doubled up.

The velcro strap might work a little better then it does if you stick a strip of velcro to the top of the battery, I've not tried that myself.
I hope that helps you

Looks three posts up... tape is the answer unless you find a way to key the pack into the chassis. Some guys also use thin double sided tape on the bottom of the pack (carpet tape, not servo tape) to keep it from sliding around.
