The mounting holes is such that if I use a top & bottom holes layout, the motor connector will be angle 30~40 degree. If I want the motor connector to be on top, I will need to use the 2 lower holes together. But is the motor mount "stable" enough to use the 2 lower holes ?
If you remove the 3 screws on that end of the motor that end plate can be rotated so it should work the way you want it to.

Did you gear up at all from where you were geared before?

You can remove the three screws and rotate the endplate so the holes match up .

A few of us are running the D3.5 in 12th scale and its going well. Its pretty darn fast and I'm sure as I only have a few runs on it that there is more to be desired but its plenty quick with the right gearing.

earlier this eek i ordered the ht rotot for my 3.5. the track i run on is outdoor asphalt. there is a 45 degree corner leading in to the 120 foot straight that ends with a sweeper , there are also a couple of 180's. In trying to be competitive with the other cars on the track i kept chasing my gearing and settled with a 80 /47 with an internal of 2.0 leaves me running a 3.404. finally settled on timing of 20 degrees on the endbell and the car was pleasantly fast,at least for 5 minutes. 14.0 - 14.5 laps. then at the last minute motor gets real flat and i run at 14.6- 15.1. temps inside the endbell vents were in the low 140's.
so i backed the timing off 4 degrees and lap times became atrocious through out the run...low 15's were my best times.similiar results with 2 battery packs.
pack a is a revtech 65x65 about 6 mos old, pack b is a reedy 65x65 with today being raceday 4 on the pack.
temps with the lower timing were still at 140 and i am running a geiss fan.
can anyone tell me why i am getting so much fade ???

Sounds like you are really using a super small spur...

Give me more specifics....What car are you running? Have you tried max timing?

Wow. Thats all I can say. I have been putting off getting a 3.5 because I didn't think it could be that much better. I have ran 2 other great motors and lived them. But I bought a 3.5 today cuz I wanted a good back up for the southern bats coming up. And holy crap. This thing flys.

Yes it is. The crazy part are the tolerances of the rotors and stators aren't very far apart. So what you pull off a shelf can be just as fast as the one the "pro"s pull out of a box.
