It was over 90 yesterday and I ran the D3.5 all day, it ran well, it was coming off at 170, so I dropped a tooth and took out a little timing, but even hot it didn't seem to fade at the end of the run. There were a lot more in the pits this week.

Hot and humid today ran my 17.5 and 13.5. Screamed and came off 170 or less everytime.

What kind of timing and gearing are you guys finding to be right with this motor?

Hi Racers

Can someone answer this for me?

If the D3.5 17.5 has 30 deg of timing at endbell zero. What timing does a D3 17.5 have at endbell zero? or is it actually zero?

Cheers Todd

So if you have your timing at the 0 mark you are at 30 degrees timing. If you move your timing on the endbell to -20 you are at 10 degrees timing in the motor. You can't go to a real 0 degrees in the motor. you have 10 degrees to 50 degrees.

Personally haven't thought about off road with the motor. But it has a lot of torque if you turn down the timing.

NolanP, thanks for your reply.

However this hasn,t answered my question. I understand how the D3.5 is timed. What i need to know is, on the D3 17.5 (previous motor) is zero timing on the endbell real zero? Or is it something else???

We run boosted 17.5 at our track and i tried the new D3.5 17.5, and after reading this thread , i have found out the motor is way over timed. Thank god it didn't smoke.

All brushless motors come with timing built in, because they run very poorly at true 0'. Not sure how much the D3 has at zero on the endbell, but it is certainly in the 20-30 degree range.

Where should I gear this thing for a small outdoor track with a 100ft straight? And what about timing?

Id say around 10 degrees and around a 4-4.5 fdr pending how tight the corners are.
