alu steering blocks - your comments
 

Hi all, i read on another forum that alu steering blocks are important on carpet. Can any of you comment on this one way or another.

The interior borders are usually unforgiving on a carpet track. I use aluminum knuckles for added security. They can bend though, so you still have to keep an eye on them.

It depends on what kind of car you have. Some are more durable in stock form than others.

I have an Xray T3, and it was said on an Xray forum

Running alloy knuckles means you can't snap them or rip the kingpins out when you hit the track barrier, so you have a better chance of finishing the race.

As for performance, the alloy knuckles just add extra unsprung weight. If you don't break knuckles now there's no advantage to upgrading to alloy ones.

Thanks Terry, i haven't broken one but have stripped one. Expensive upgrade if not needed !

For performance totally agree, as it add weight. And if you hit the car hard enough something else will break anyway..........

Some people just see upgrades as being necessary purely because they are expensive, assuming if it's expensive it must make the car go faster.:lol:

Xray won't need them. I've never broke one in a year of running an xray on carpet and can't think of any xray that has broke one at our track.

I've broken a couple of xray knuckles, but I hit every board, so that might be why.

I run them in my team magic and very happy. I broke a few plastic ones there but they cheaper harder plastic. My associated blocks never broke once. Raped bearings but never steering blocks. Some are stronger for sure and survive better.

Depends how much you love your car choice. My e4 blocks would have been $70 new.....
