Low Cost Electric Motors
 

Im curious about the performace and life of lower cost motors (the ones usually under $30) as compared to high end motors. I have an Orion Revolution 10x2 in my Xray, but want to use something a little less exspensive for practice to save wear and tear on the race motor. One I was thinking about getting is the Epic Intense,

Not having used one, it looks a little like a speed gems pro, which is a decent motor. Basically a machine wound P-94 mod (Trinity's last but-one-but-one-but-one mod motor...)

Generally, if the motor comes in the same kind of can and endbell as the company's handwound modifieds, they run pretty well. The cheaper motors tend to be made of sawdust rather than metal.

The expensive motors are expensive 'cause they're built by hand. The cheap motors are built by machines that do not have "feeling" for what they're doing. The main difference is that almost all the expensive motors are good, the machine wound motors go from good to bad. You could get a good motor when you buy the machine wound, but you're sure to get good motor when buying hand wound.

Yupp..... the cheaper mods would be more costs saving but don't forget that the V2 mods require less maintenance... hence making the maintenance costs lower...

Orion has an inexpensive line of mod motors svsilsble with the round V2 brushes

Cost for the fixed timing motor is $25

ya ive seen those, they look alright, the ball bearing versions are around $35.00 bux though...

Orion will be releasing even lower cost versions of their SV2 motrs called the Method and the Method R. These will be there lowest priced motor yet and will still probably be better then some companies mid-priced lines because of the SV2 technology using the round brushes.

what kinda brushes are used on those motors anyway?? The same ones as the revolution?

I am using a Reedy Flashpoint 12x2 in my TC4 which is their budget motor and when I compared it to a 12x2Ti worlds edition side by side on a dyno in box-stock setup both with 12deg timing they had almost exactly the same numbers but the Flashpoint was slightly more efficient :D

And at almost half the shop price of the TI worlds I'm not complaining

why not try a stock motor....liek the trinity monster pro or the p2k2 pro

i know those are good motors, but stock just seems to slow..
