Which sedan for oval?
Anyone have insight into the best choice for 4wheel drive touring car for oval? I cant wait to start running one in oval but dont want to make a big mistake by purchasing one that is not well suited to this driving.......thanks

You can probably get a sweet deal on a used TC3. Add a Leading Edge battery tray and you're dialed.

Corally TQ'ed last year TC3's are strong with offset batteries We've got a Pro4 with an offset we're trying X-Ray drivetrains appear to be pretty stout as well as locally guys have run well with them with On-Road setups still under them. |
I think BMI was working on a oval chassie for the tc3. But dont know if it went into production. might want to contact them. Also Factory works makes a oval sedan body

Well, I run an xray with an onroad setup on it. tc3's with the right work done to them are very fast as well. Like Cbear said he's running a pro4 that he made an offset chassis for, and that car is absolutely ballistic.(can't wait to see how he does at snowbirds if he gets it hooked up) But, these 3 cars I know are all good cars. As for the corally I haven't run it or seen it run oval yet so hard to comment on it.

Bill Sell ran the corrally last year.. it has a custom left hand oval chassis made by corrally.... He top qualified the class, but broke out in the main..

Personally I would go with the X-Ray FK (not the 05') and run 6 cells down the right side, no custom chassis and all you need is a $30 option 6 cell battery holder....

The cars being mentioned are all great cars, but keep in mind that you can probably find a great deal on a TC3 now that the TC4 is out. I believe XRAY cars are worth every penny but they are still expensive.

I guess it kind of depends on what you're running on or your local track rules are too. For dirt, that factory works body would be great and throw on some side dams and that. Most places running carpet oval (around here anyways) make you run a traditional NASCAR body though, so the Factory Works Late Model body wouldn't be allowed on the rug.
Standard stuff like parts availability should be taken into account, and also if you might want to run On-Road too. From a budget standpoint try to buy the same brand of car for both, that way you'll only need one spare parts box. As a sidenote, Lance, I keep telling the crew chief I'm most worried about touring car, because you can fake a pan car setup and still be able to drive the thing. But you can't fake a TC, they've got to be hooked up or else they behave like a chicken with its head cut off. Of course he assures me that he's got it all under control :shrug: |
