Only two left in actual magazine form so you got to go with RC Car Action because RC Driver sucks...

RC Driver doesn't suck, I get both, but take away the covers, and it's the same magazine, so If you say one sucks, the other must also.

Car Action has way too much advertising, Driver is getting the same way. Neither of them cover what the average racer is doing.

I stopped subscribing to the R/C rags in the late 90's....There is rarely any decent tech articles beyond how to build short course shocks. Its all advertising and they are both full of the same boiler plate articles. Some have great photography though so I'll snag one off the newstand if it catches my eye, but there is very little on-road coverage.

As an example, the local magazine rack at the store had (and I shit you not) Traxxas Magazine, by the authors of RCCA. Seriously, a 10mm thick advertisement for Traxxas that they want 6.95 for. I dont think so......

Truth is, the best info is on the web, and specifically Rctech

I truly think there could be an R/C version of Racecar Engineering magazine....have some reader submitted articles....seems there are more engineers/technicians/designers etc race on road than any other form of RC cars, from my experience.

This is an interesting conversation--especially if it stays a discussion and not just a flame session.

I proudly ran RCCA for years. I say proudly because I loved the job (hated the company but that's a different story) and stand by the work I did. I now run http://rctruckstop.com which of course does not have much for the on-road aficionado. But I do try to do some deeper tech articles such as covering: anti-squat, bump steer, drag brake and auto roll, bladders vs. emulsion, etc. Another huge plus with RC Truck Stop is the tested products are actually tested. Anyway...

I too like Racecar Engineering, but I do not see an RC version as a solid business model. RC racing is a small audience and it is simply a fact that the on-road audience (even globally) makes up a small percentage. I know on-road diehards don't like to hear, but it is true. point is there isn't a big enough group of potential readers to carry a magazine.

and thats understandable, but thats why Onroaders are cancelling all the time...even a small %....

if the mags would at least post about major events and latest goodies, that would make a sale for most of us...its nothing better than seeing your name in a book...

My Lowrider was in a magazine and I bought 10 copies...just saying..even if I didnt win, its a special deal...and RC racers feel similar...

If Im spending my money...at least have something that intrest me...or whats the point

I won't buy the mags either. I got suckered in for the last time when I picked one up because it had a beautiful f1 on the cover. I thought it may be a nice read. After you took away the pictures it was about a half page write up on how to build and race the car. With only half a page it wasn't a very good article for building or racing. I guess pictures sell a thousand mags but not to me anymore.

Print is dead. Get yourself an RSS reader and you can make your own magazine that only has articles from people and places about topics you care about.
