Default What screws, where?

I am trying my best to shave every 1/3 gram where I can. I have decided the only other option to save weight is replace some titanium screws with aluminum. Every thread ive searched says they strip easy and bla bla bla, but I feel the places they strip quickly are high stress areas or areas that have lots of play (or just a torque happy driver-user)Also, Many companies are selling titanium/aluminum combo kits... Most of the flathead screws are titanium, but the button are alum.

What are the "low stress areas?"

I feel nearly every part of my TA06 is high stress.

I found this picture that hints to some locations...

I assume the entire undercarriage should be titanium...hints?

I don't recall a big difference in weight between titanium and steel.
Alu is too weak for almost anything on a 1/10 TC except perhaps lipo stays/bumper etc.

You won't save much weight changing a few screws.

im thinking changing nearly 1/2 of them. at about 1g per screw, 2 alum =1 titanium, it will add up quickly...

I barely trust Ti screws. Aluminum screws are just to weak. The weight savings are not worth even one DNF.

I would add aluminum screws anywhere above chassis level and in front of front axle/behind the rear axle. Leave the heavy steel screws that mount the anything to the chassis alone as this will keep the CG as low as possible. Now if you don't have to add ballast or there is no minimum weight, I would put the light screws everywhere that is low stress including the chassis.

i run steel screws on the suspension pin holders and front knuckes (because i unscrew those often for set-up changes and crashes)
the rest of the underside and shocktower screws, and diff covers (TA06) i use titanium
for everything else, i use aluminum

So you wouldnt use the alum on the tower?

Im planning on using them on the tower, upperdeck, etc. I have alum bulkheads so I was planning on leaving those titanium.

i have them on my ta06 right now (alum) but that's because i ran out of ti screws and i'm too much of a scrooge to buy a set... also i run 12T TAC/TCS with LiFe so the speeds are too high. but i were running boosted 13.5 i would change back to steel or ti

suggest you keep everything at the bottom steel or Ti as well as the shock towers and diff covers... everything else can be alum

Do you not race, or is the 417 just underweight? I've had to add weight to every onroad car I own to make weight.

I used to run aluminum screws to save weight, but never again. The small weight savings is just not worth the frustration of stripped heads.

Its actually the exact opposite. I own a TA06 and it is nearly 1400 grams. Stock with carbon conversion. i got it to 1380 but it required me changing nearly 75% of the car...but I want to be able to add weight to balance it better.
