2005 Snowbirds Race Coverage

Hi all,

It is once again time for the Snowbird Nationals, the biggest race on the planet. Last year there were over 800 entries and I'm sure this year won't be any different.

Regrettably, I won't be attending this year's race. XRC is sending somebody else and I simply can't afford to pay my way like I did last year.

However, there are a few places on the web that promise to have live results for the race, so I am hopeful that you will be able to get your fix there. Some places to visit:

http://www.snowbirdnationals.com
http://www.rcresults.com

There has also been a lot of previous discussion of this year's race right here on R/C Tech:

http://www.rctech.net/forum/showthre...threadid=58868
http://www.rctech.net/forum/showthre...threadid=61982

I will be in contact with a few people at the track and I'll do/post what I can here. I feel bad for not being able to get out there, but I guarantee you that R/C Tech will make up for it with some innovative things that we'll be doing at the International Indoor Champs in Vegas later this year.

Anyway, here you go, post away!

pauley walnuts 02-02-2005 07:01 PM

sorry to hear that, the coverage has been excellent.

Vegas baby!

RCThunder 02-02-2005 07:53 PM

Thank you Shane for your link and adding a topic on the race. We will miss you for sure. Everyone here is real excited about the race and can't wait to get started...

Mike

StephenSobottka 02-02-2005 08:12 PM

I will be one of the people keeping in contact there

futureal 02-02-2005 09:35 PM

Thanks Mike, I'm sure you guys will put on another great race, and I'll do everything I can to make sure I make it out next year. :)

Stephen, we expect 90-second update intervals. haha

nashrcracer 02-02-2005 10:20 PM

well www.NashRCracer.com will be there and I'm not racing oval so I'll have 12 hours not to do anything. So I'll be wearing out my digital camera and posting stuff to my site. I don't think it will be like my coverage of cleveland where I had the results but I'll try to get some cool stuff.

Tempest2000 02-02-2005 10:31 PM

I can promise you it won't be like Cleveland because I'm FREAKIN GETTING SOME SLEEP at the Birds LOL

Either that or Nashrcracer is going to have to get his own room LOL

Shane - Who is XRC sending ?

Tres 02-03-2005 07:00 AM

Nash & Tempest...LOL good luck on the sleep:D

Tempest2000 02-03-2005 07:03 AM

yeah I know... but an hour or 2 at the birds all week would just about be more than what I got at cleveland so I figure if I can get 3-4 hours it will feel like a vacation LOL

Mason 02-03-2005 07:17 AM

I'll be there Monday. I hope there is wireless or atleast some wired access available. Looks like I need to create a SnowBirds Album in the gallery. I don't mind hosting "somewhat live" results, video (digital), or if you wish to donate to the photo gallery I'll be hanging with the SlickZero guys.

:)

DavidAlford 02-03-2005 08:14 AM

Last I heard it was dial up only :(

rcResults

I have written software that looks at the files from autoscore and auto_magically formats the data and sends it to the web. The web site should be updated within ~1 minute of the end of the qualifer. I also do an un-official standings for everyone in that class. I will also be doing practice. We will have a practice standings per class. This will be based on a number of laps averaged. Mike will also have a web cab that takes snap shots and puts them on the web. We will have a wireless network that will have the same results that the web has. No access to the internet though. Bring your wireless cards and connect to the network to see all the results. We plan to have every lap that is run on the track on the web.

If all the software works like it supposed to. (famous last words).

well I found out that LOCAL CALLS are $1.16 per call here at the hotel so that's a rip  no 56k dialup for me I'm on the 9.6k connection.

SirSpeedy 02-05-2005 03:06 PM

Unless something has changed, local calles are $1 or so, but they do not regulate the length of the call.

At the '02 Snowbirds, Team Butter and I left my laptop dialed up in our room for 3 days - one call on our bill when we checked out.

If Boylan or Ken Holmes are reading this...can you do something about the on road layout? Running the full oval is not so cool. I know this is an oval race but at least half the entries are on road and 90% of the press coverage goes to the On Road racing. The old lay out was better than this.
