Default Which motor pinion for a 3.5 brushless ?

Hi guys,

I need a piece of advice. I hope there is still a few people running the T1 FK'05.

Here is my question : which motor pinion must I use for a 3.5 brushless motor (nosram storm) ? I use the standard spur gear (84 teeth) and run rubber tires on a medium asphalt track.

Thanks for the answers.

Cheers.

I just started in the brushless thing. I run a 13.5. I was told to run a 5.0 final drive. To figure your final drive out , you do this. Spur divided by pinion X 1.7= final drive.

I dont run a 3.5 but in another thread Steve Wesis says that a 7.6 fdr would be a good place to start.

Thanks guys for yours answers.

For start, i'll try a ratio around 8.0:1 and let you know.

I've just found out that the manual says 10:1 for small tracks and 8.9:1 for big tracks. But I prefer to have some echo from users.

Cheers.

Default 2 spur gear screwed. Any advice ?

Hi guys,

I made several runs with my new lrp sphere istc and nosram storm 3.5 combo last sunday and this sunday. Here is my problem.

When I brake (not reverse) normally or hard, I hear an horrible sound : the spur gear doesn't resist and the teeth are smashed. For now, I use the standard xray spur gear. I broke one spur gear last sunday and another one today.

I don't understand. Is the 3.5 motor too powerfull ? Is the standard spur gear too weak ? Should I use the hard version of the xray spur gear ?

Any piece of advice ?

Thanks.

its most likley that the belts are set incorrectly and the belts are sliping over the gears and remember a more powerful motor you will need tighter belts

If the teeth on the spur gear are smashed, the your gear lash is too loose. Maybe you need to consider 48 pitch if you are running 64 pitch to allow more tooth if tightening the gear lash doesnt work.

Branden Moody & rcracenut,

Thanks for the reply.

I don't think that my problem has something to do with the belts. I may be wrong but I don't imagine one of the belts come over my spur gear. My belts are quite tight (I even use the top deck with the belt tender). But thanks for the piece of advice.

I already use 48dp pinion and spur gear. Well I think so. The standard xray spur gear is 48 dp, isn't it ???

I'll check the pinion lash but in 12 years of rc, it never happened to me. And I don't imagine doing the same error twice.

Does xray have a "hard version" of the spur gear, just like the suspension arms ?

Cheers.

here is 2 more thing to think of look at the diffs front and rear and check if they are too lose or if the one way has some thing stuck in it also if you dont have the lock washers on the wheels they will come loose after a coupe of laps

Thanks Branden Moody.

I checked these 2 things and it is fine.

The standard xray spur gear is in 48 dp, isn't it ? Does Xray sell "hard version" spur gear, just like the suspension arms ?

For the moment, I use a 48 dp losi motor pinion.

Cheers.

im pretty sure xray doesnt make a hard version of their spurs but it has to be the motor or something like end points or something stuck in the can but it seems to not de the car
