RCERIC...

Oops my bad, no one from XRay has stated they are stainless, though others posted that the screws are aluminum on the xray forums, while others suggested replacing the screws with stainless. The kit screws certainly don't weigh as much, nor have the same finish as the stainless replacements I bought.

Default Hi

Hi,

Has anyone got an idea of how to keep screws from stripping after a meeting? It seems every meeting i come home to re-build my car and the bulkhead screws seem to tighten them selves like welded or sumthing any suggestions on how to stop this?

Thankz Davo

I think you're tires went because to much air gap make the tires heat up faster and the after a certain point they get too hot and handle poorly. Add a couple more air holes on the rim or make the existing ones bigger (2mm holes). You could try using a different temp tire. Keep you original settings on the car and try working out the tire solution. Your car will stay consistant through the entire race, your tires won't.

Hudy tools for life! I believe the Xray screws are nickel plated. So they tend to have a tremendous lock down on aluminum. I know guys who didn't tighten them down so the won't strip, but they still loosened up. What I do is put a few drops of AE loctite on a plastic bag and then dab only one or two threads of the screw. When you screw it down, you only need to make it hand tight and it won't budge or tweak the chassis. To remove take no effort ... with a 3mm Hudy. Also get the 3mm Hudy ball wrench for the hinge pin supports.

This is something the seems over looked when people prep their chassis' before building. It does work great.

Try some Anti-Sieze. Coppersieze seems to work very well. You can snug up the screws and they will easily come out. I keeps the dis-similar metals from locking togeter. I use this stuff alot on my 1/8 buggy, engine bolts have never been easier to remove.

Some of our local racers are now using associated springs with their fk05 and I've tried them with my fk04. The reasoning is the shorter length and more progressive rate. Anyone's thoughts on this???

Has anyone used HPI's progressive rate springs or any other brand spring with their xray's?

When I built my '05, I tightened all of the screws too tight, apparently. I had to dremel a slot in 3 of them to get them out, which mean that I have dremel marks on the bottom of that pretty new chassis after the first race day. Now, I only barely tighten them, and check them before each race - don't take that long to just hit all of them with the Hudy driver to be sure they aren't loose - no more problem with them being overtight, and this also makes me go over the entire car before each heat/main.

i have used congo springs in my 05 and the car was pretty good until there were a lot of 180s and chicanes. went to the xray springs and the car was even better.

I think this must be the solution to most of these problems... I did this when I built my car, however!!! not before I assembled the car and realized that I hadn't done it! When I went to dissassemble the car (next day) thats when I noticed the tight screws. Since I CA'd them I haven't had the issue.

I use AE springs for the simple reason... I already have them, and didn't feel like forking over almost $100 CDN for a set of XRays

Is anybody having glitching problems with the fk05? Mine is horrible, I've tried different receivers/positions etc etc. I have no problems with any of my other cars. It's driving me nuts...
