Hey Ron, it was nice to meet you. Like we talked yesterday, it will be interesting to see the actual layout change. I settled on 3.49 at 38 degrees. The motor was right at 150 temp. It sounds like the sweeper at the end of the straight is going away, so back to the drawing board on gearing. Either way, im pleased with this motor's power.

Reedy Race update (a little late but... )

SchuurSpeed had Jake Danilchic (sp? sorry) and myself make the A main in the highly competitive stock class.

Jake finishing 6th and myself finishing in 10th.

Great to see the large turnout and look forward to next years event!

At what temp are people experiencing fade on these motors? I've been racing indoor carpet with the 17.5 , timing at 34 deg and 3.76 FDR. The performance is good but it's been 87-90F these days inside and after 6 mins the motor is coming off at 155-165F.

However, there is a noticeable drop in performance after 3-4 mins, so I wonder if I should drop the timing or go to a 3.8+ FDR to compensate for the temp....

Decided to try a new motor and this one looked too good to pass up. Ran at Middle River Hobbies yesterday against some of the fastest racers on the east coast. Track size is about 80x36, very smooth carpet on subflooring. This motor pulled strong and I never felt underpowered. Started the day at 3.8 and 38 degrees. Motor temped at 92 degrees. Added some gear and bumped the temp up to 102. Finally settled on a 3.55 fdr at 38 degrees and the motor stayed at 140 degrees. Very happy with the performance.

Anybody got a good fdr starting point for a schuur speed 17.5 boosted on a 70x30 carpet track?

For our 17.5T Blinky TC class, we usually start around 4.0FDR on high grip carpet and settle down to about 3.6-3.8 @ 34* timing depending on the layout. Our local carpet track is slightly larger though, so YMMV. Usually in that range, i can get my schuur to stay within 135F or less.

If you prefer a high-torque setup over sheer RPM, this motor is awesome.

In blinky 17.5 TC, I've compared it so far against Fantom Apex, Thunder Power, and Trinity D3.5. I'm not sure how it might fare in boosted, but here is how I would describe the differences:
  • Out of these four, the D3.5 seems to offer the most top end. It's great for high RPM, but I prefer high torque for my particular driving style.
  • The Fantom Apex is one of my favorites for torque, but temps usually come in a bit on the higher side (150-160F).
  • Using the same gearings from the Apex, the Schurr 17.5T is similar in terms of output and powerband, but you get the added benefit of cooler temps which translates into more efficiency and longer runtimes (more power conserved in the battery).

Need gearing recommendation for WGT 13.5 motor on medium sized carpet track. Also, how much timing to set on motor

Interesting since the Apex (revtech) is the rpm motor and the d3.5 is the torque motor.
