Default If I buy a 65c battery for 17.7 Blinky is it a waste of money?

Or should I stick with the inexpensive 40c "OHP /Thunder Power" for blinky mode?

Damm 17.7 would be cheating so lets say 17.5

I think that the higher C gives you more up front or at the begining of the race. What your looking for is consistency thru out the run. The best thing to do would be to test..

Relatively speaking it wouldn't, but if you are looking to be competitive and gear to the moon and turn the timing up you will want the higher discharge rate.

not a waste , just unnessisary. 40c is plenty and very consistant over a 6 minute heat. Very happy with my 40c gens ace packs. I was gonna get a reedy/thunderpower but i got two Of these for less than half.

I was also looking at the Turnigy lipos, but from what I see the 65c packs are not ROAR approved....seems as if the exact same pack being 40 and 50c are ROAR approved. Since I'll be racing this upcoming Aug. in the ROAR nats. in Joliet I'm going to wait until the pack is approved...hopefully soon

Gen ace, turnigy nanotech 40c's will be as good as any 65c lipo in 17.5 blinky, specially when you factor in the low price and low weight of these packs... When you think about it, how did the top racers run mod when the 20c lipos just came out ??? You still don't think a 5000mah 20c can compete in 17.5 blinky !!!! Let alone a 40c......

As a general rule, you buy the best battery you can in 17.5... if you want to win. No excuses.

Welcome to Spec racing!

Mod is sometimes too powerful and weaker batteries are ok. I know a mod driver who intentionally discharged a fully battery pack a little so that power will not be too much. Resulting in better lap times.

But in stock/slow class, best batteries make the difference in my experience.

note- not all 65c packs are created equal. It varies from manufacturer and each model they produce.
Your options are to test all of the packs yourself or just pick what is "fast" and hopefully reliable (will be fast for more than 10-15 charges)
I know my choice
