You wont find a short stator within roar rules they will all be too low

As far as I know ROAR doesn't really have any rules that keeps that from happening. There is no stator length rule, and no wire length rule right? Although, if they keep the same resistance numbers as the "big" races have in the last couple years I don't think they will pass tech.

There is a ROAR minimum stator length rule. Its just never been posted on line. All the current motors on the market also meet this rule.

D3.5. A 17.5 has inductance readings like a 13.5. It's legal on ROAR's list, but if there's an inductance rule it's not legal, so people are confused.

There is not a minimum inductance rule for a wind in the ROAR rules. Each motor has a different inductance reading and is affected by the amount of iron in the stator. Thats why all the numbers vary on the approval list.

Back in the brushed days there was a minimum wire length to stop short stacks. Today there is a minimum stator length (so I am told) instead of minimum wire length.

What are races that check inductance looking for then? Presumably they're operating off of some established limits?

Just registered and booked my room! I can't wait have not done a big race in a very long time. this should be fun. One ? do you have to use roar approved batteries ?

This is the ROAR list of approved motors. If you look to the column to the right under uH it shows the tested inductance when approved. The D3.5's dont seem to have any drastic difference than the others approved. ROAR does check Inductance when approving but there is no minimum across the board (that I know of).

Looking at the list the Revtechs have lower inductance than D3.5's and Pulse motors are even lower than that but there are still lower than them..team powers, tekin, icon....

Guess maybe there is more to a motor than inductance and resistance.

Really? R u playing dumb?
Birds checks... ROAR nats checks... we even check at club racing if someone is crazy fast.

I was just asking what numbers they use as a baseline. EA said there was no rule so I was confused.

They = roar?
I think it is all about using the smallest amount of wire. How ever to get a tight wind or shorter distance wins..

They = race directors.

For example, when Snowbirds is teching motors in, and they're measuring inductance or resistance or whatever it is, what numbers are they looking for? Are they making sure all brands are under n, or are they going off the baseline established for each brand on ROAR's page? And how will it work if a D3.5 is under whatever number they're using?

For me personally, I'm not sure motor is going to matter because I can't manage to string a run together without 5+ taps. I regret having ever commented on this because I'm not worried about it. I just hope my ORCA is legal.

If your D3.5 17.5 reads like a 13.5, either you have a crappy 13.5, or an amazing 17.5, of the ones I've measured, they are the lowest of the 17.5s, but far from looking like a 13.5.

The RMT had a big binder of values from the motors submitted when we were at the outdoor nats last year. I have no idea what values they used at the birds 2 years ago, they wouldn't tell anyone what their motors read, or how close, just a pass or fail.
