Default G-forces

Approximately how many lateral G-forces will a 1/10 Touring Car actually do on Carpet?

A real high performance street car will pull 1.0 lateral G's before skidding, a non-winged racecar (Nextel Cup) will get closer to 2, and an F1 can handle closer to 5. What does an R/C generally do?

Well it depends on the tires, obviously any grip generated must come from the tyre surface, you need to check coefficient of friction values for different tyres, this will then be the theoretical limit, most street tires CoF is around 1, as you move to single seat race cars it changes to about 1.5 - 2. This means that for a given perpendicular force on the tire tire creates 1.5 - 2x the lateral bite. This will then be the centripetal acceleation and the quantity divided by 9.81 will give the 'gee' force experienced.

I'm gonna have to say five

Seriously, I wouldn't know, but there are systems out there that can measure those forces...just don't have the names at the top of my head.

Can you picture a hamster in a car with his lips flapping from the forces?

Try www.eagletreesystems.com - I've used their data logger, got g-force readings of 1.6 or so running on slippy floor tracks - carpet tracks will probably generate a lot more.

I can still recall old Mister Barnslow getting out every morning and nailing a fresh load of tadpoles to the old board of his. Then he'd spin it round and round, like a wheel of fortune, and no matter where it stopped he'd yell out, "Tadpoles! Tadpoles is a winner!" We all thought he was crazy. But then we had some growing up to do.
