I don't really have a budget, just would like to start with something cheaper due to not knowing if I will like it since I'm pretty competent with off-road. I was just curious if I should spend the extra cash to get a TC5, because maybe the belt drive is worth it.
I read belt drive isn't the best on asphalt because of rocks and debris, and 50% of my racing would be outdoors during the summer at car shows where they hold racing.
So maybe a TC4 chassis would be appropriate. Are there any problems with the TC4? I think I read something about the drive shafts breaking..

The plastic half-shafts aren't good for the front, especially if you're running a spool. Some folks have had problems with breaking steering racks. Other than that, I think the car is pretty durable. You'll want to get threaded shock bodies as well. If you're buying the TC4 new, it doesn't come pre-assembled (as far as I know).

I think there are better options than a TC4 for those who are budget minded. Prime example: http://www.tqrcracing.com/shop/produ....asp?p_id=7718
TC4 is outdated, with the S2 you get a modern touring car design. Just my $0.02

"Pre-built "race roller" chassis ready to accept most 1:10 scale touring car electronics, bodies, wheels and tires" - That is just what Associated's website says.
I would actually probably rather have to build it myself, just so I know more about it. My knowledge of these things don't compare to off-road.

Appleton is in the U.S., right? TQRC ships hella fast, like clockwork. I ran a Spec-R for a while and had no problems with parts support, you just have to have some spares on hand. The only fragile pieces are the front caster blocks and steering blocks, get a few spares and you'll be golden.

Could someone list the more common VTA chassis'? I researched some, but there are so many! I just want to know some common ones so I know I have help when I get one.
What about gearing? I seen a FDR of 4.0 is ideal, and the trans ratio of a TC4 is 2.5 I believe. What is a good spur and pinion to start at? 20/32?

FDR will be dependent on the track. On the one closest to me the norm is 3.6 - 3.7.

I run a Robinson Racing 60 tooth spur and have an assortment of pinions from 31-45, but usually run around a 36 or 37 on our smallish track. Regarding the question of most common USVTA chassis, ANY of them will work. I finished 2nd to an Xray 2014 yesterday with a TC4 equipped like the one you describe. You mentioned running outdoors and being concerned about the belts. Seems like a reasonable concern to me, but I run a TC4 and haven't had any issues.

Thanks for helping me. I will probably just get the TC4 to keep it simple and readily available. Probably pick that one up on here that has the necessary upgrades.
Do you recommend a certain speed servo, or a certain servo?
I use a Savox 1258tg and AE DS1015 for off-road. Just don't know if that would be an overkill, or too fast, or powerful.

It depends on the track and your transmission. I run around a 3.5 with the timing maxed out (or more), but I put a lot of work into freeing up my drivetrain. Start around 4 and check your temperatures, you can push the Novak to 160 no problem, but it will fade over time (read: months).
