I know what you mean. When Spastix is right it looks so great, but everything has to be perfect. If the airbrush doesn't atomize just right, or if it doesn't dry just right, or if the backing isn't perfect, then it's just another silver.

It definitely takes some magic to get it right.

It was the tires. A good cleaning night in a zip lock with WD-40 made for great traction.

I am not new to VTA, I have been racing it for around three years and I currently have 3 of my cars set-up for the class, so I have went through my fair share of tires. The new tires had my car sliding around so badly, that I decided not to race it and ran another class. I followed my usual VTA tire break-in procedure which usually has my tires working from the moment I first set it on the track.

Anybody else tried the newer tires and if so, what was your experience with them?
I tried a new set lately in the fancy new bag and they worked fine. I dunk them in a gallon of acetone for 15 minutes before mounting them. Removes any release compound. Then sauce with ProTek TrueGrip Maximum in a ziplock bag for 24 hours. Then another sauce of Maximum before hitting the track the first time.

Slightly off topic....but, for all you Falcon fans, who will probably never see a Falcon body for VTA, here is something to put a smile on your face.....

I've seen this car in person, it races at the same Southeast SCCA racetracks that I did. That picture was taken in the tech shed at Roebling Road Raceway in Pooler, GA.

Full tube frame chassis, built & prepared at the ROUSH NASCAR shops. I believe it's a full on NASCAR Winston Cup engine in it as well. Bad ass!

Never tried the Acetone thing before mounting the tire; just afterwards to remove the tires from the wheel. I'll try that next time. I assume you let the tires dry after the acetone bath before mounting and further assume that you take out the foam inserts before the acetone bath?

Yes. I let the tires dry, then go over the bead with ammonia and a shop towel just to be sure. Dry. Mount. I don't put the foams in this bath, no.

These 5 cars listed raced in the U.S. Trans-Am Series, but nobody has made 1/10 scale r/c body as of yet:

I say go for the 63 Ford Falcon if anyone is listening. The Falcon had a whole nuther look to it than the others at that time. All the rounded corners.

And, I had a 1961 Ford Falcon once upon a time. So I'm partial to that car. When I bought it ($1,600) my Dad said, "Why would you buy that thing? It was a P.O.S. in 1961, and its still a P.O.S!"

(I drove it for a couple of years and sold it for $1,650. So there Dad!)

I keep seeing a 1/1 scale Falcon convertible, that is For Sale. I would make a cool vintage race car. A man can dream...

I don't think the Gray Ghost will work in lexan. There is just too much material behind the rear axle. It's like 30% of the length of the car.
