Default R/C cars and the mainstream media survey

If I may have a moment of your time....please bear with me.....

Long story short, I'm taking a class at school which is based around one project of our choosing that lasts All Year. I am doing my research and project on none-other than "R/C car racing" and how to bring it into the mainstream media. One phase of the research is the "survey" part.

I have a few (Yes/No) questions and a very short... "short" answer question that I would very much apprecieate if you all could answer. Any help is greatly apprecieated!

Thanks!

Age:

Years in the R/C car hobby:

Number of R/C cars owned (past and present):

Should R/C car racing be brought into the mainstream media? Yes/No

Would the R/C car hobby benefit from media exposure? Yes/No

Should weekly club race results be, at least noted in the news paper? Yes/No

Should news stations cover “Big Races?” Yes/No

What are some ways you think the R/C community can create an awareness of the hobby?

If you don't feel comfortable posting info on the tread, please feel free to PM me.

Thanks again!

Should be an interesting thread!

Age: 31

Years in the R/C car hobby: first car at 13, in the hobby for 10 years

Number of R/C cars owned (past and present): 20 or 25

Should R/C car racing be brought into the mainstream media? Yes - but the bigger question is how and who

Would the R/C car hobby benefit from media exposure? Yes of course

Should weekly club race results be, at least noted in the news paper? Yes but only small regional papers would do this IMO

Should news stations cover “Big Races?” Yes but again someone has to take the initiative

What are some ways you think the R/C community can create an awareness of the hobby? Big races need to have the media invited out, to say "state/world championship to be decided in model car racing", look at the rc races in Europe where the mayor of the town and the town councils come out to dinners with the rc racers, it's made into a very big deal - racers get in the paper for being a series champion, etc. Big races need to be accessible to local people...banners and signs and notices in the paper and stuff like that. Hold races in mall parking lots on busy street corners, not in out of the way industrial areas. Local shops and series races and things like that could do so much that doesn't cost much, or any, money.

Age 32

Years in the R/C hobby? 16

Number of R/C cars owned past/present? 5/3 Two Off Road, one TC.

Should R/C car racing be brought into the mainstream media?
Absolutely Yes.

Would it benefit from the media exposure? Yes.

Should weekly club results be, at least, noted in the paper? Yes. I would also add the Club's contact phone number with the stat. And the place they race.

Should news stations cover "Big Races"? Yes

What are some ways you think the R/C community can create awareness of the hobby?

Parking lot races would help. But I think a R/C Race Against Cancer or some event fundraiser along that lines would be a bigger attraction. It would be a great way to promote the local club/clubs. And it would get your news coverage.

Default Sligthly off topic

I'm not sure what your project goal is, but the users of this forum IS very biased !

I mean, I downloaded the videos from the DHI A-mains, I saw one.... I havent seen the other twos yet. Reason: It's not THAT funny looking at on screen.... Maybe if it was filmed and commented in a more professional manner, like Formel 1

A side note: Please keep in mind, I dont want to offend the guy, who filmed the DHI cup. It is a huge challenge to film such an event. Actually, I find it was well done to offer it to all of us

But will people in general be interested in watching RC races on TV? It's fascinating to watch it live, but on TV? Personally, I only watch sportgames, that I can relate to, that is, the games I've tried myself.

Anyway, I dont mean the hobby sholdnt be in the media, but it have to be done the right way.

The easyest way to create awareness is by communitcation between on another and get your local hobby shop to back up your racing club.

Should R/C car racing be brought into the mainstream media?
Yes and No. Yes because its a great hobby and should have more exposure and no because it may bring in a lot of people who do not care for the hobby just winning. (i.e parents fighting cause their kid wrecked the other kids car)

Would the R/C car hobby benefit from media exposure? Yes

Should weekly club race results be, at least noted in the news paper? Yes

Just spread the word, when people ask what sports I play, I say I race R/C cars, they usually do not know about this hobby and seem vary interested in what we (the rc community) do cause they probably haven't heard of it before.

Would the R/C car hobby benefit from media exposure? Yes - give a better impression of is as sport instead of toys from Toys R us

Should weekly club race results be, at least noted in the news paper? Yes - at least the bigger ones

Should news stations cover “Big Races?” Yes - and advertise the races on the stations too, to improve attendance

What are some ways you think the R/C community can create an awareness of the hobby?

Promote more in the mainstream...All the promoting in R/C-related material is nice, but the hobby needs to "cross-over" kind of like Traxxas is doing (they advertise in auto mags)...Another thing is MAKE THE HOBBY WATCHER FRIENDLY...Give people a reason to stand around and watch these things fly around the track...if the space permits, put up grandstands (the small kind) and let people see what's going on - let them cheer for their favorite racer (or car or paint scheme)

Give the people something to watch...
