Theres a reason everyone runs a body style that only raced for two years in a now defunct American series...it works the best. I am no fan of the Stratus, I would rather see a rule that says (similar to 1/5th scale) that any body not raced in the last...say 2 to 5 years cannot be run now (1/5th scale states it must be a currently racing body style). At the same time though, if you have never run two body styles back-to-back in testing, I would reccomend that you do it the NEXT time you run your car. If you can't do that, as already suggested, just take off the rear spoiler and try to drive the car without spinning out. It is noticible to just about anyone with sportman skills and a decient setup on the car. The big difference with the aerodynamics is that the cars might be 1/10th scale, but the air isn't. Aerodynamics come into play at about 10mph and increase proportionatly with speed. Keep your eyes open for a magazine article to be coming out in the next couple months reguarding this.

Cole: Bodies do make a differance. Like Tfram, I like and run the proto 300m. Here is what I got from top racers on bodies. Stratus is very forgiving, ugly too, Accord has a lot of front down force, and Voxhaul is neutral. Mondero was weak in the front area, lots of rear. Lotus did not work here either. They lasted 2 races on 1 car and 1/2 day on the other. My bud has the Saleen and was not that pleased. Switched back to the MB CLK that he likes. He tried the GT40 also, no front down force and rear was weak. Of your 3 choices, Mondero. Agree with you on the Stratus it is butt ugly IMO.

I had a HPI Alpha Romeo that worked out great. I ran it on an indoor carpet track. Handled great. I also like the Protoform Honda Accords and Civics

I ran a Mondeo for awhile. It was pretty good, from what I remember it was pretty balanced, then I put a ProtoForm Stratus back on, and gained almost a tenth a lap. The Stratus body just seems to have more downforce front and rear.

At first I wasn't too sure how important aerodynamics were but even things like losing a body clip can kill ya because that corner of the body might lift up and cause an aero-tweak. I've knocked my wing off running Mod before... That was the longest 5 minutes ever, made the car sooo hard to drive!

Actually, not that I'm a scientist or anything... but he's right, as far as i can tell.

Think of it this way; a full scale car-sized brick compared to a 1/10th sized brick. How many 1/10th scale bricks does it take to equal the mass of the 1/1 scale brick? 10 across by 10 deep by 10 high = 10 cubed. 10x10x10 = 1000

Ignoring the shape of the car, it's the same equation.

JimmyD is correct on the math. Ten 1/10 scale cars can't fill the space of one full scale car. It takes 10*10*10, or 1000 of them. If you put ten 1/10 scale cars end to end, you'd get the length of the full size car, but not the width or height.

Linear measurements scale by the scale factor, area measurements scale by the square of the scale factor, and volumetric measurements scale by the cube of the scale factor. Unless they're teaching a new new math I haven't heard about.

Just for everybody's info, I tried the protoform volvo s60 last sunday, and it has lots of rear downforce. It felt like it had more grip than the stratus with just a little bit more push. And it looks alot better! You might want to try that body, Cole.

I like alot of down force in my car. I like to drive my car to the edge but still be in control. The bodies I like the most are the Nissan Prima which is hard to find now, the Volvo S40 also not made any more, the protoform Straus and the Opel Vauxhall. My buddy swears by the Ford Mondeo he has tried all the bodies above and says they don't have enough down force in the rear for him. I guess it depends on your driving style and what you like.

Cole, of the three you mentioned, I'd have to agree with TFrahm & get the Mondeo(though I've not tried HPI's, I only used Protoform's, it might feel different) I have tried the Volvo S60, though, I actually I thought it has too much rear downforce, on a higher speed track, I could get the push out of my car until I went to a different body......

I feel the mondeo is the best of the three the elise is one of the worst bodies made.I have ran many bodies,Corvette,bmw,gt 40,dahms dominator,Accord,stratus,vaxhalll,alfa romeo the one like stratus shape,,nissan primera,nissan skyline,subaru dirt rally body,dodge viper,honda s 2000.,dodge 300m.I love getting new bodies and trying them as you can see the best of these I feel is the opel Vaxhall for indoor carpet and outdoors,the corvette I liked outdoors on open sweeping turns,and the dominator was good outdoors tons of down force but had to make own wing supports,the worst was gt 40 and skyline which is simular to ford mustang body ,corvette pushes bad on carpet,viper is loose all over.

I've made the mistake of racing with the Elise body TWICE and found it to be horrible. (To be fair, the first time, I had ESC problems that knocked me out, but even so, the car handled poorly). It's beautiful, but like so many have already said, it's the ugly car (Stratus) that wins races.

However, I have noticed that some of our local racers have been racing the Ferrari Modena body with some success. It's a sweet looking body and apparently has decent handling characteristics, at least on the short tracks we race on. So if you really want something different, give it a try.

While we're at bodies and handling - have any of your guys experimented with HPI's wing kit (the one with 3 different wings). Good/bad?
