Sorry, I haven't really looked into the iPod yet....You can pickup a m105 Palm for like 20$ on eBay all day, that is what I am using.

Some things I may add:

1. a select box to pick your car from for those who don't / can't remember their transmission ratio
2. a way to save each value to a db so when you call the app up everything is pre-filled
3. a grid that will not only show the gear you calculated but the values of the next two higher and lower then your value so you can see what the values in the range would be
4. a gear ratio calculator
5. a cross-weight calculator for those who have the integy weight distribution system

6. LONG SHOT: A generic setup sheet holder that stores in a db on the Palm....This is a big undertaking but I am thinking about it if I get enough feedback for it....

Yea yea...do it all...And then do something I haven't even thought of yet.

How about an app that will let me know how much faster thru the turns I need to be to gain that .01 advantage over the local fast guys????

Need to read-up on the Palm DB stuff before I do a couple of them, but the Gear Ratio calc will make it into 1.5 and probably along with the cross-weight calc....

Is it possible to have a conversion from inches to metric? We typically measure all parameters in metric then shoot for a 1.0 rollout. Possibly just add the in to mm conversion in the calculation

Thanks

Rinkrat,

It already works in metric, IE: 57mm tire diameter....so it will spit out a rollout that looks like 26.5 (my stock rollout)...

If that doesn't answer your question please elabrate so I can get the functionality you want in there...

ooops! What we typically do is use the metric tire diameter and calculate for a rollout corresponding to inches.

So for using a Losi XXX-S
Gear Ratio = 1.83
Pinion = 28
Spur = 118
Tire Diameter = 60 mm
Rollout = 0.962 inches = 24.44 mm

We being here in the US seem to understand Inches better when referring to rollout.. I use the 0.03937 inch / mm to calculate my rollout.

Is it possible to alter the app to show both inches and metric?

Ok, I posted a new PRC at the same location as the original, now it outputs both mm and inches

Enjoy!

I could make my software create a comma delimited file that stored practice and race lap times that you could import and display with Excel. Let me know!

I am also interested in software for PocketPCs for RC as well as suggestions. I currently develop for PPCs in PocketPowerbuilder. I got a Dell Axim X50 for Christmas and was thinking of writing an application for storing setups, track information and laptimes for practicing. I was thinking of adding the ability to draw the track to store with each setup as well as add graphing to show progress with each setup change.

Any suggestions would be great. I am still trying to come up with ideas for a useful application.

There any way to get a PDA to actually time your laps?
