If you are a clubracer then why spend so much on a high end competition car. I think a Tamiya TA06 with a brushless motor will do the job as wel. Also what brands is your LHS carrying?

Doesnt Camberra come under the NSW controlling body, if that is the case, them his first class will be novice which is all Tamiya TT01 and silver cans if i remember rightly.
TurboManiac, check with your local club first for what classes they offer and what class you should start out in, with that in mind, we can then give you some better advice on what way to go.
Also, if you are lucky, the club might have some second hand gear you can buy and get you going much faster.
