Default ESC for F1

Looking for an esc to run in an F1. At the moment I'm thinking FGX. It will be 17.5 blinky.

At the moment I'm thinking of these:

Novak GTB2 Low Profile
Novak EDGE
Hobbywing JustStock

If I have to I'll go to these, but I'd prefer to keep costs as low as possible

Hobbywing 1S
LRP SPX Zero
Tekin RS

I currently run an RS in my boosted tc, but dont want to go to that cost if I dont have to. Open to recommendations, but I am kinda after the cheapest option that will fit.

I've had good luck running a Novak Mongoose in mine with a 21.5
I've been told that people have had no problem running a 17.5 with one.

Any of them will work fine, most clubs in Sydney area allow 17.5 blinky or 13.5 hobbywing (mini combo). The Justock is an excellent choice, but if the rules ever change you wont have the chance for boost. Id go with the Hobbwying 60 Amp V2. Good sized ESC and big power if needed.

I run a Cirtix Stock Club Race, and a Novak GTB2. A buddy runs the Edge and loves it, and he is very fast. All in the FGX. They all fit quite well on their side.

Novak edge is great for f1. Small footprint very adjustable and right at $100. Works great in the fgx. I'm running 21.5 and love it.

By the way putting a mongoose on 21.5 would be dangerous. 17.5 I wouldn't even think it. Its a great esc just not designed for the 21.5 or lower.

I believe RobK tested the Mongoose with a 21.5 and was happy with it. Try checking the other forums. I know it worked fine for VTA. Yes, it's 25.5 instead, but it is a much heavier car with a lot more drag in the drivetrain.

I understand and agree the mongoose works great on 25.5 and it may run a 21.5 but I think that's pushing it. In my opinion the $$$$ is better spent on an edge that will handle it for sure instead of taking the chance.

If you can drive you can be competitive with
Silver can and a cheapo brushed esc in f1.

Although the sp cirtix club is amazing value!
Gearing it up to stay competitive with boost esc is a gamble though!

We currently offer three affordable, spec-only controllers:

GTB2-X
Edge 2S
Novak Club (ships March, street price 79.99)

You can't beat our GTB2-X for spec racing, but our EDGE 2S and Club are affordable and tiny. We are discontinuing our Mongoose esc, due to component availability.

He's running 17.5. No way a silver can will keep up.A silver can vs a 21.5 is a stretch too. You have to run so much gear to have the speed that the silver can wants to melt and lose th corner torque or you keep the corner torque and get slaughtered on the straight.

Yes a silver can will be close enough to a 21.5 to run but you said "competitive". I just don't see it competitive in a field of 21.5. No match for 17.5.

I like my Speed Passion Cirtix Stock Club. Easy to use, no boost to deal with, and the throttle feel is excellent.

Thats what I was most worried about, getting one that fits in. I have oppotunity to pick up the gtb2 lp for $70 shipped... which is probably one of the best deals I'll get, but its foot print is a little big so I wasn't sure.

But if the standard gtb2 fits in an fgx fine then the lp will be even better.

out of curiosity, are those hobbywing esc's fitting with the fans on?

Thanks everybody for the input, its helped a lot.

No fan needed for 21.5 or 17.5. They just don't run that hot.

I agree, if I was buying another esc, that would be the one. And it probably will be the one, thinking about a trade in.
