You can set the pro-trak up to wait before discharging the cells once they have charged in the cycle.

You can also tell it to do a part-discharge and then a repeak.

You can also set the repeak current if you want it to be different from the normal peak current

Cell type is for NiMH or NiCD, charge type should be linear for NIMH's, Dischargge first means you can ask the charger to discharge the pack before starting the cycle, or start charging straight away (I no longer use the discharge before charging function)

Basically you don't need these things, I use the cycle on a standard setting, with no delays, and no repeaks, and I only do one cycle at a time.

Vision Peak is what I run my Ni-cad on for my 1/10th scale. Have it for years, hook it up for a Voltmeter and watch my pack voltage. Has boost button. I still have three years of warranty left, and it has never let me down. If you are looking at doing sub-C Nicad and Nimh, you might also look at the Dynamite Vision Peak Plus.

I had a Vision Peak Plus, and returned it though, because it was not doing what I needed. I needed a charger for NiMh AAA batteries for my Mini-Z cars. As far as I am concern, there is ONLY one charger to get for Mini-Zs and that is a Ray-o-vac 1 Hour Charger. Don't let the name scare you. You can get them at Target. (Mini-z owners need to know where to get things, since most hobby stores don't handle chargers for their needs). Sure it may take you 1 hour to charge 1800 AA cells, but only 20 minutes to charge 700 AAA cells. To make it even better, each cell is individually peak. Cost 39.00 Mine came with a bonus 2 AA 1600s and an automobile adapter.

Now you High End charger owners, BE JEALOUS. Wouldn't you too like to individually peak each cell?

regarding Protrak

I always use the discharging before charging. If you select this feature a lockout time is engaged so a false peak will be ignored.
You can select the lockout time in the setup menu up to 2000 mAh. This is very useful with the Sanyo 3000.

I'm running version 7.02 which doesn't have the part discharge thing! I can't figure why you would want to part discharge??!!

Anyway, just keep pressing the '0' button and you will get there eventually!!

BTW, what is tha latest version no. now? may be worth me getting an upgrade. I have heard that if you ask Phil (Protrak) nicely he will provide a new chip for almost nothing!! can anyone confirm this??

V12 - I used to use the discharge/lockout feature, until I had a bad experience with a part charged pack.

These particular cells lost A LOT of voltage during storage, so when I discharged them, the charger thought they were empty straight away.

However, they still had 1500 ma in them.

The 1500ma lockout meant that the cells (which were quite old) were actually getting overcharged (!).

So I don't do it anymore, and I don't get any false peaks either.

DTM - current version is 10.something, upgrades cost about £25 (you'll have to cover postage from hong kong though I suppose)

The current version for the pro-trak is 10.12, it is not much different from previous versions, you can now make your own end of charge tone using the nokia mobile phone code, and also you can set text to scroll across the screen at the end of the charge.

Default Pro-Trak

Sosidge, dtm, and v12,

I will just leave the time between things at 00:00 right so it will not do the part discharge and the repeak , right? I will have to say dtm, if you can get the upgrade because there is not many charger companies that offer upgrades. If you want a newer version they make us by the charger again so they can make the money. Pro trak is in a class by itself.

haha...I see Phil has been working on improving the 'important' features of the machine!!! I guess its a good thing because I'm sure the original bleeps were copied from those Tamagohi toys that used to be around!

If you follow the normal Protrak logic, 00:00 should do the job. Although I would still check by watching what the machine does the first time you try out!

The only thing I would say is not everything can be accesed through the normal menu system, some stuff (like charge rate) can only be changed with the hotkey (in that particular case, key 5).

You can change delta volts during charge also if you need. Hotkey #1.
