Reedy Quad Mag 19 Turn Motor, Not ROAR Legal?!

I just did a quick re-read of the ROAR rules for 19 Turn motors, and it appears that the Reedy Quad Mag is not ROAR legal based off of the the following:

5-48 .... "commerically available at a retail price of less than $50"

The Quad Mag non- handwound version retails on AE website for $54.95 . Based on the rule, is the Quad Mag Now not ROAR legal?

Anyone know more about this?

Default Hmmmm

It also does not have the Mabuchi wrap on the arm. Unless they have changed that recently.

What is the mabuchi wrap?

That would be very sad that the motor isn't legal because of a $5 price point.

I thought the quad magnets made it illegal. It is Arcor legal.

I'm looking at THIS set of rules.

See section "5-49" sentence 4. "Only singel piece (2 magnets in a can) ceramic magnets are allowed." but Oval racing does not have this rule. This rule applies to all "all electric except Oval Classes".

So Reedy quad would not be ROAR legal for non-oval classes. Any motor with adjustable timing would also not be ROAR legal.

That's just my interpretation. Correct me if I am wrong.

oops... missed the update on the main rules page.

"Only single piece (2 magnets in a can) or split magnet (4 magnets in a can) ceramic magnets are allowed"

Reedy Quad is back in the legal realm.

mabuchi wrap is wrapped like stock motors, where the wire crosses over the top of the wind to the next solder tab. Hemi wind is what the C2's have been up to this point. Thats where the wire comes up on side of the laminations, and doesn't cross over. Its like 1/2 wind less. Hard to explain. Look at a stock motor arm compared to a C2 arm.

Thanks for the info on the wrapping.

Anyone got a report from ROAR if the motor is legal or not? that $50 price issue seems to be a sticking point....

I got my motor for only $30ish. Whoever is paying $50 is getting ripped off. Dyno tuned ones are around $40ish. The only thing I'm wondering... and I'd have to go back and reread the rules... but the Reedy Quad's armature shaft does not extend past the bushing/bearing with a "step" machined in it. Kinda like a C2. So that would be my only concern with the Reedy motor.

There is nothing to clear up, according to www.roarracing.com the 19T rule saying only 2 magnet per can has been changed. 4 magnets per can are now allowed which means the reedy 4 magnet motor is legal.

I don't think allowing 4 Magnets supercedes the rules that applied originally to 2 magnet motors, namely the price. I will send them an email and report back.
