You know what, you've just come up with a better title for this thread. Instead of

"Japan's death grip on the touring car world"

why not

"American cars getting left behind in the touring car world"

Xray's inclusion in the list makes the thread title a little inappropriate

I wouldn't say their getting left behind. The standards have been raised is more like it.

Yeah, I'm not saying that Losi and Associated are horrible.
I'm just saying that it seems like the other companies are taking more time on every aspect of their cars. Meaning, Molded parts, aluminum, instructions etc..
Everything seems to be tighter and cleaner from everybody else.

Tamiya does seem to rule the roost.
If you look at their national series & regional qual races it promots a fun series.
HPI also had a series but then dropped it,sold those cars.
My son and I both race Tamiyas cause our local track, Burien Toyota in Washington sate puts on biweakly outdoor races under their service entrance cover, rain Mostly and occ.sunshine.Pus we have two top drivers,Dan Garber @ Brett Sicily, that help everyone, not only with setups but driving to.
The other local tracks seem to have the car of the week club.
If the US manu. would set up something similar Im sure their poularity would also increase. And I do own American REAL cars!

Lets be honest here. The reason Tamiya and Hudy have been popping up at tracks all over the country is because both cars have won multiple major events recently(nationals, worlds). Most drivers are frontrunners and change chassis depending on what is winning now! I see it at my local tracks constantly, a few people do good with a new chassis and a dozen people have it the next week.
