was a bit disappointed when i opened the package to find that the mini unis are incomplete, and missing the Cross joints and pin.

would have expected that everything needed to build the unis would have been supplied.

Thats a bit harsh... it was never advertised as that, and it's not what was on the list for being tested.

Are the original Tamiya (417) cross joints enough in order to build the kit, or are other parts needed?

For Tamiyas: You get just the swing shafts & wheel axles when you order.
No cross joints or pins, or set screw. Your existing hardware works just fine.
The parts are well machined & finished. I was running 46mm but the 44mm fit fine. I'll be testing Weds. TA05-IFS-R.
