Default 1700SCR cells

I recently gave a mate of mine my old TA04, a old radio and ESC, (for Xmas)

he used to race ages ago and he managed to find his old 1700SCR stick packs that have been sitting around for about 5 years, they look like they are still in good condition and should be fine for 540 class,

what delta peak/charge rate should I use to charge them up with? (I cannot find anything on the forum/web)

I would start low and work your way up. Maybe 4 amps and 10mV/cell delta peak or somthing like that. If they haven't been used for a while, they will probably false peak the first few times. Keep track of their temp while charging. If they go above 120'ish then they are either getting over charged or the current is too high. The base settings on the novak millenium pro for Ni-cd sub-c cells calls for 4.5A with 14mV/cell cutoff.
Brushes? We don't need no stinking brushes!!!

I recently charged my old 1700scr (red color) and 1700SCR-SP (black color) with my new charger Eagle CDC at 5 amps and 15mv/cell. These packs have been never used since 1998. No false peak and fully charge. Strong Cells !!!

RC50 As you come into this world, something else is also born. You begin your life, and it begins a journey towards you. It moves slowly, but it never stops. Wherever you go, whatever path you take, it will follow never faster, never slower, always coming. You will run, it will walk. You will rest, it will not. One day, you will linger in the same place too long you will sit too still, or sleep too deep. And when, too late, you rise to go, you will notice a second shadow next to yours. Your life will then be over.

I just charged a 10 year old set of Red SCR1700's on my CDC using default peak (10mv) in fuzzy logic mode...

Wanted to see how good they were, ie can I keep them to run my Comm lathe...

2 cycles later and they dump a solid 1850mah in discharge...

Second pack refused to charge, said voltage too low... Probably a reversed cell in the pack..

Ah well 1 out of 2 not bad for the age of them...

If you're going to try that with old cells, trickle charge them overnight first.... I have a real old pack of matched 1200's and 1400's that still have some decent capicity left in them.... It's hysterical to look at the numbers though....
I still lurk....

The strange thing was they never got hot. I ran each pack in a Stampede and they seemed OK. I let them rest for a day and charged them again at 4 amps. The second time they charged and peaked as expected. Since then they have been used many times and they work great.
On a low amp charge, new unformed/unmatched pack can often take a silly first charge, I have seen as much as 4000mah on some 2400's in the past used in my heli flight packs...

It surprises me that they didnt peak at 4a tho, having said that 2200mah isnt an awful lot for a first charge on those cells...

I have a pack of Sanyo RC-1700, which is 3 year old. They've been charged with 6 amps all the time. They still perform reasonably good (age and price considered), and a individual cell cycle, showed that each cell is quite even. And it have never been a matched pack

Data: (Ccap, Dcap, Peak, Vaverage, IR)

Cell 1: 2393, 1776, 1,676, 1,047, 12
Cell 2: 2387, 1743, 1,630, 1,055, 11
Cell 3: 2441, 1722, 1,582, 1,062, 11
Cell 4: 2441, 1755, 1,581, 1,071, 10
Cell 5: 2218, 1726, 1,675, 1,064, 11
Cell 6: 2556, 1770, 1,582, 1,057, 11

Discharge rate is 20 amps and cut off voltage is 0,8 volt.
